Whistle! After three heartfelt, hilarious, and gut-wrenching seasons of television, it seems the talented team of Ted Lasso still has more stories to tell. Created in a joint effort by stars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, and Scrubs head honcho Bill Lawrence, the show followed Lasso who’s a former football coach trekking from Kansas to London hired to work with the then-struggling AFC Richmond soccer team. Three cast members of the Apple TV+ original series may be returning to their beloved characters.

After a bittersweet end to a show that ran the gamut of emotions from heart-breaking sadness to gut-busting hilarity, it sounds like Jason Sudeikis and his talented crew may still have a few matches for AFC Richmond to partake in. A report from Deadline confirmed that season four of the multiple Emmy-winning Apple TV+ dramedy is getting a green light. “So Long, Farewell”-the last shot episode of Ted Lasso- did seem to wrap up everyone’s storylines in a conclusive manner.

Roy Kent has taken the mustachioed motivator role and became the new manager of AFC Richmond. Sam Obisanya, initially a midfielder with Richmond, has now become a star player on Nigeria’s national soccer team. Jamie Tartt and his dad seem to have patched things up. It will be fun to see what they have all been up to all this time.

Are the Diamond Dogs still offering one another gems of wisdom?  Will Ryan Reynolds’ and Rob Mcelhenney’s Wrexham team cause some trouble for AFC Richmond? Both are entirely possible. According to Deadline, three key cast members have had their options picked up and they are three-time Emmy winner/writer/Roy Kent himself Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift AKA the Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins, and Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham AKA the owner of Richmond Rebecca Welton.

Ted Lasso Cast on The Show’s Future

When word got around last year that season 3 of the lauded Apple TV+ sports series would potentially be its last, fans and media personalities alike were quick to ask cast members if there was truth to the claim. Debuting amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the show’s sharp wit and poignant plot points made it resonate with so many people during such a bleak and stressful time. So it’s understandable that many are eager for Lasso to continue telling stories as its characters have left indelible marks on the audience.

Hannah Waddingham stopped by the Tonight Show in March to promote the show and was asked by Jimmy Fallon if there was truth to the new season also being the last season. In response to Jason’s comments, Hannah stated “It’s the natural end of a three-season arc. So there’s a beginning, a middle, and an end to all of this. We don’t even know.” Jimmy picks up on her comment and asks that it might not be the final season to which she agrees. “We[the cast] genuinely don’t know. I don’t think Jason even knows, to be fair.”

Later that year in May 2023, Jason stopped by The Rich Eisen Show to discuss the Ted Lasso final season comments that came out. “The business side of things is a whole complication. It has to come from the root of where we want the story to go. How’d we want to evolve the characters… A better why than just because. Because folks want it”.
