Kim Taehyung, or V of the K-pop band BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) has been around for a while. As young as he looks, he’s had a remarkable career. Besides being one of the most familiar faces in BTS, he has his own songs, which he performs. He has been a songwriter, a soundtrack composer, a producer, and an actor. He is one of the most recognized people in South Korea today. Let’s see why that is.
How Taehyung Got His Start
Born in Daegu in late 1995, Taehyung always had a keen interest in music. He learned to play saxophone at a young age, then gravitated towards pop. He was picked up by Big Hit Entertainment (now Big Hit Music), which also reps BTS.
In 2013, he made his debut with K-pop band BTS, singing “No More Dream.” He has been with BTS since singing with them, co-writing with some of the BTS members, and releasing his solo work. Additionally, he provides most of the BTS baritone vocals.
Taehyung’s Solo Career
Starting around 2016, he began writing his tracks, including “Stigma,” which was on BTS’s studio album, entitled ‘Wings.’ In 2018, he released the single “Singularity” to much critical acclaim. Since then, his career both with BTS and on his own has been swinging on an upward trajectory.
Taehyung’s Recognition In South Korea
The singer has been the recipient of several awards. In 2018, he was awarded the esteemed Korean Order of Cultural Merit Award. Along with his bandmates, he was commended for their role in the positive spread of Korean culture. In 2021, he was appointed as a Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture.
Also, he has been acting since 2016. He made his acting debut in Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. In 2019, he released his first all-English hit, “Winter Bear.” Besides acting and singing, he’s a brand ambassador for several different companies to include a coffee company, an Indonesian investment firm, and Cartier.
What’s Next For Taehyung?
With tons of things going on, the performer has been super busy (obviously) but also is keeping himself available for BTS projects. In March 2025, he generously donated about $ 175,000 US to the Korean Red Cross to aid Korean wildfire victims of the Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam regions.
Taehyung’s future looks bright, as he is set for more recordings with BTS and has some singles of his own to be released. He will continue singing, producing, acting, and working as a brand ambassador for fashion and entertainment.
