Superman is close to wrapping up filming after a six-week shoot in Cleveland, Ohio. James Gunn, the director and co-head of DC Studios, regularly shares updates with fans on the film’s progress. Superman features an all-star cast and is expected to impact the DC Universe significantly.
The Superman cast includes David Corenswet, Nicholas Hault, Rachel Brosnahan, Wendell Pierce, Milly Alcock, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Sara Sampaio, and Edi Gathegi.
What Did James Gunn Say About The Superman Movie?
On Threads, Gunn thanked the city of Cleveland for its hospitality when Superman was in production. He said, “#Cleveland – today we are leaving you after six amazing weeks of shooting.” Less than a year ago, Gunn realized that Cleveland was unique when he started scouting the city. Additionally, he revealed that people approached him expressing gratitude for choosing the city as the filming location. Christopher Reeve’s son, Will, also appears in the film.
Entertainment Weekly tweeted the news: “Will Reeve, the son of the late Man of Steel actor Christopher Reeve, tease his cameo appearance in next year’s Superman, saying, ‘There were so many people around, and I had to memorize one line.” Despite revealing that he will be in the film, Reeve did not disclose further details about his role.

Also, Gunn dropped the new art of Corenswet as the Man of Steel on his personal Instagram account. On the post, he captioned, “Stickers from the camera department.” Gunn has consistently shared updates on the movie with fans on social media.
For some time, DC Universe has been looking to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They tried with the DCEU under Zack Snyder and other previous leaders but never got their footing with films. Plus, Snyder left production on Justice League due to a family tragedy.
There was uncertainty about which direction the DCEU was headed, as the build-up to Black Adam led fans to believe that Dwayne Johnson would shake up the company. However, when Gunn and Safran took over DC Studios, it was revealed that Black Adam wouldn’t be part of their plans in the future.
Also, Gunn explained that Henry Cavill would no longer play Superman, despite his surprise appearance in Black Adam.
Additional Details About the Film
Superman began production in February, and it is the first movie under Gunn’s and Peter Safran’s reign in the DC Universe. The film will focus on the Man of Steel as he rediscovers his kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.
Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, while House of the Dragon star Mill Alcock will take the role of Supergirl. Other cast members for Superman include Wendell Pierce (Perry White), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Terence Rosemore (Otis,) and Gathegi, who will play Mr. Terrific.
Merced will play Hawkgirl, while Fillion will play Guy Gardener, aka Green Lantern. Maria Gabriela de Faroa will play The Engineer. Plot details are still under wraps, although there is a short description of the film. However, Gunn stated that the film will focus on Clark’s early life rather than an origin story.
Nothing is guaranteed to succeed in Hollywood, but all signs point to a positive direction for the DC Universe. Superman will hit the big screens on July 11, 2025.
