First announced back in 2020, Star Wars: The Acolyte is being headed by Leslye Headland(not a pun)and will see both Amandla Stenberg and Manny Jacinto in starring roles. The Acolyte will be making its debut in less than a week on Disney Plus on Tuesday, June 4th. Both Episodes 1 and 2 of The Acolyte will premiere at 6 PM PST/9 PM EST and I plan to watch both episodes the day they release.
Star Wars: The Acolyte takes place approximately 100 years before Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and will take place during The High Republic which is when both The Republic and Jedi were at the height of their power.
Don’t Expect Any Skywalkers

Star Wars: The Acolyte is taking place approximately 100 years before The Phantom Menace which besides the books and comics is going to be the first piece of live-action Star Wars content not set during the Skywalker Saga. With The Acolyte being a Jedi-centric show I’m sure we’ll see Jedi Grand Master Yoda in some capacity in the show who was a key figure in the Skywalker Saga.
Considering Chewbacca is 190 years old in Solo: A Star Wars Story, it’s possible we might see him but I’m personally hoping The Acolyte keeps cameos to minimum if any at all. With this being a different era of Star Wars, I want it defined from key characters from that era, not key characters from a different era.
Do Expect Many Jedi
The Acolyte taking place during the tail end of The High Republic era means both the Galactic Republic and Jedi Order will be at the height of their respective powers. Just because the Jedi and Republic are in their golden age doesn’t mean they aren’t without hardship.
In the novels and comics, the Jedi and Republic deal with space marauders known as the Nihil. While I’m not sure if the Nihil will make an appearance in The Acolyte, the threat the Jedi face will surely be stronger than Nihil.
Expect To See The Sith?
In The Phantom Menace when Qui-Gon tells the council about his encounter with the Sith Lord Darth Maul, they are skeptical of his claims, Ki-Adi-Mundi even says the Sith have been gone for a millennium. In both Legends and Canon, after the Sith went “extinct” Darth Bane founded the Rule of Two which meant only two Sith could be around at the same time, a Master and an Apprentice.
Once the apprentice feels they’ve learned all they could from their master, the Sith apprentice would kill their master and then attain said role. From what trailers have shown so far, it seems like a group of Jedi will be facing off a Sith master in a forest.
Stars Of The Acolyte
Not only does Star Wars: The Acolyte have a pretty interesting cast of characters, it also has some pretty good roles to bring those characters to life. Amandla Stenberg is playing the titular Acolyte character and voiced Margo Kess/Spider-Byte in Spider-Man: Across The Spiderverse last year. Lee Jung-jae of Squid Game fame is playing Jedi Master Sol who is the former master of Stenberg’s character.
Manny Jacinto who played Jason Mendoza in The Good Place is playing a smuggler by the name of Qimir, Dafne Keen know for her work as Lyra in His Dark Materials and Laura/X-23 in Logan is playing Sol’s newest Padawan, Jecki Lon. Additionally, YouTuber Abigail Thorn best known for her channel Philosophy Tube will be playing Ensign Eurus. As a big fan of Philosophy Tube, I advise everyone to go watch her content because it’s good.
