Kdramas have become increasingly popular internationally over the years. More and more have been produced, and the common theme within them is usually action, horror, or romance. However, Netflix has started producing its own K-dramas, but which are the top three?
3. KDrama: Squid Game
Squid Game is an action-drama South Korean television series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix. This Kdrama cast includes actors/actresses Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, HoYeon Jung, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi and Kim Joo-ryoung.
Seong Gi-hun, a divorced father and a gambler who lives with his mother, is invited to play a series of games for a chance to win a large cash prize and pay off his debt. Fastly accepting the offer, he is taken to an unknown location where he finds himself among 455 other people who are all in deep financial debt like him.
Everyone is forced to wear green tracksuits and are kept under strict supervision at all times by masked guards, with the games overseen by another masked man. The players later discover that losing a game results in them being killed, with each death contributing 100 million Won to the potential 45.6 billion Won grand prize.
Seong Gi-hun befriends other players, including his long childhood friend Cho Sang-woo and a character named Sae-byeok. They all stick together to try to survive these horrific games.
2. KDrama: Sweet Home
Sweet Home is a horror South Korean apocalyptic horror action fantasy television Kdrama series starring the actors/actresses Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook, and Lee Si-young. It is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan. The first season was released on Netflix on December 18, 2020. The second season was released on December 1, 2023. The third season is scheduled to be released this summer of 2024.
After a horrific tragedy kills his entire family, Cha Hyun-su leaves his home and relocates to the rundown apartment complex known as Green Home. One night, horrific monsters start appearing and ravaging the whole city.
Cha Hyun-su and his fellow residents must fight for their survival against the monsters. Hyun-su starts having symptoms and gains the ability to turn into a winged monster whenever he wants. Others from the apartment also start to turn into monsters when they want.
1. KDrama: My Demon
My Demon is a romance South Korean Kdrama television series starring actors/actresses Kim Yoo-jung, Song Kang, Lee Sang-yi, and Kim Hae-sook. It aired on SBS TV from November 24, 2023, to January 20, 2024. It is also available for streaming on Wavve in South Korea, and on Netflix in selected regions.
The series depicts the story of a contract marriage between Do Do-hee, the devilish heiress of a family-owned company, and Jeong Gu-won, a demon who temporarily loses his powers. This momentary loss brings them together in an unusual way. Little do they know; they are past lovers from different lives.
