The Only Murders in the Building season 4 trailer has been released, and you can watch it on YouTube. Starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, this dark comedy can be streamed on Hulu. Season 3 ended with a huge shock when Sazz, played by Jane Lynch, was brutally murdered! So, if you’re ready to solve the murder, start streaming now.
The trailer for Only Murders in the Building season 4 brings a whole new cast of characters to play the already humorous and maybe slightly ironic trio. The podcast has taken off from just some hobby two older men and one twenty-something-year-old do for “fun” and has now caught the eye of a very enthusiastic Hollywood producer. The trailer also references the hilarious YouTube show Between Two Ferns and doesn’t disappoint with its obvious reference to California tourists’ favorite burger spot, In-N-Out.
What To Expect in Only Murders in the Building Season 4
In the opening scene, we get the narration from Steve Martin. He shows scenes from home videos of himself, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, to emphasize that when we go into the past and view ourselves, we are often shocked at that younger and slightly goofier version of ourselves. This shows us the funny irony and we begin to change into something more serious and “real” according to world norms.
There is no denying as the episode continues that Charles, Oliver, and Mabel know that two older men hanging out with a twenty-something-year-old isn’t a social norm. However, it makes for great entertainment, odd as it may seem. Their time together often results in them discovering a little deeper self-awareness, while everyone else around them seems to be the ones actually “out of touch” and that’s why the trailer reveals a little plot. It’s only when you press play on your remote and start streaming Only Murders in the Building Season 4 that you fully get the scope of the world you’re entering, not as a viewer but as part of the Charles, Oliver, and Mabel sleuth team!
At the start of episode one, “Once Upon a Time in the West,” the team is instantly introduced to the overly ambitious producer in Hollywood, played by the comedian Molly Shannon. Oliver is instantly a yes for making the movie to impress his girlfriend played by the very talented Meryl Streep. Mabel, however, is hesitant to sign over the rights to her personality as she finds the description of herself to be disappointing. Charles is distracted from the whole big Hollywood movie offer because he hasn’t heard or seen Sazz and he is worried about her.
At the Hollywood party, the cast to play our favorite self-appointed detectives is revealed. The star of the new show Land of Women, Eva Longoria plays herself and is cast to play Mabel. Zach Galifianakis is cast to play Oliver who Martin Short immediately tries to dismiss as the boy from Home Alone. Eugene Levy is cast to play Charles.
At the end of episode one, the trio returns home only to discover their dear friend has been murdered. This sets the tone for the mystery to begin. It also offers the possibility that this new season is going to once again redefine murder mysteries as being something seemingly ordinary people can help solve for fun!
Episode 2: Conclusion
At the start of Only Murders in the Building Season 4, episode two, Charles is in shock. His best friend, who was his stunt woman (a little bit of irony there as well), has been brutally murdered, and all that remains of her is her ashes. Mabel and Oliver immediately jump in to calm him down and reassure him everything will be alright with their optimistic approach to bringing justice to a dire situation. The trio are the underdogs, but it’s only because being an underdog is the best way to go unnoticed and discover hidden truths as revealed in the previous seasons.
At the end of episode two, the addictive formula is something to once again be a part of. This is because you get the sense that this new opening for the other side of the building, known as the “West Side,” is full of “loaners” and “shut-ins.” Also, Oliver and Mabel lock Charles in his apartment like in the plot of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. You can’t help but see the synchronicity here.
