Netflix recently premiered the romantic comedy Nobody Wants This, and contrary to the title, it’s become a series that everybody wants. The latest show offers variety and doesn’t take itself too seriously, making it a must-binge-watch. The streaming giant succeeded in making this feel-good rom-com pop by adding the right ingredients. The series even reached a 95% certified fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes, praised for its electric chemistry, sharp humor, and standout performances; this might be the rom-com of the year.
Nobody Wants This Plot
Nobody Wants This is the story of sharp podcast host Joanne, played by Kristen Bell, who meets the traditional Jewish rabbi, Noah, played by Adam Brody. As the two pursue shared sparks, it seems no one around them wants their love to work. Through the ups and downs, family feuds, and crashed bat mitzvahs, Nobody Wants This Season 1 ends with Joanne and Noah’s relationship undergoing the ultimate test.
By the season finale, Joanne feels she could take over the world, the temple, the Roklove family, and anything between her and Noah. However, a conversation with Rebecca made her realize the weight and pressure of her decision to convert. She ends up doubting if she’s doing it for the right reasons, to be with Noah. When she tries to break up with Noah, believing she’d hinder his dream of becoming the head rabbi, Noah races after her to kiss, tells her he can’t have both, and chooses a relationship with her. He didn’t seem concerned, but fans are, so what comes next?
Possible Season 2
Season 1 ended in a mini-cliffhanger, making Season 2 a need. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bell and Brody addressed questions about season 2. The stars are game with creating a Nobody Wants This Season 2, and they would also love their real-life better halves to have a cameo or guest appearance in the show! Bell is optimistic and excited about the prospect of continuing to explore the complexities of Joanne and Noah’s relationship. Nobody Wants This shows how to explore a real relationship in a modern dating setting. She wants Season 2 to get into the nitty-gritty.
The pair also told Rolling Stone they’d like to continue Nobody Wants This “till our faces fall off,” if Netflix allows them to. To be clear, we don’t want their faces to melt off, but two or three seasons would be awesome! In an interview with Vulture, series creator Erin Foster addressed the possibility of a second season. She told the outlet that if she were granted a season 2 to continue telling the story, she’d further delve into the experience of converting. This information suggests Joanne will be converting in season 2, but only Netflix will reveal when the official renewal will be.
Final Thoughts
Nobody Wants This is a much-needed refresher in a global setting where toxicity is romanticized. The series is equally fun and exciting, but it also shows the complexity of individuals and relationships and even explores the role of families and communities. Bell, Brody, and Foster created something special that brought people genuine laughter. Also, learning that this is loosely based on Foster’s experience in converting and marrying her husband shows how powerful love is and how much it can push us to change. It’s the best rom-com in the streaming giant to date. 5 Stars would highly recommend it.
