My Happy Marriage Episode 2 Review

My Happy Marriage Episode 2 is the first episode of My Happy Marriage where we’re introduced to the theme song. From the very opening credits of My Happy Marriage Episode Two, the video shows Miyo as a young child and how she was treated. I love how Miyo’s treatment is constantly alluded to. The show reminds us that it is important for us to remember where Miyo came from and to constantly show her growth throughout the show. I especially liked how the episode started—right where episode one left it. Episode 1 left it where Kiyoka and Miyo were first meeting.

From the very beginning of My Happy Marriage episode 2, when Kiyoka meets Miyo, he is harsh towards her. He tells her in no uncertain terms that she is to obey him in everything to the letter. However, in My Happy Marriage episode 2, I felt rather indignant at Kiyoka for treating Miyo harshly upon first meeting her. Miyo tries to prove herself by fixing breakfast for him the second morning she is at Kiyoka’s house. However, Kiyoka accuses her of poisoning his food when she is confused as to why he demands she eat a bite first.

Kiyoka is a major general in a special unit that helps to control creatures known as grotesqueries otherwise known as demons or ghosts. These grotesqueries come to be after a person with supernatural abilities dies. Kiyoka is used to commanding a troop of men and not used to someone like Miyo. He is used to strong-headed fianceés who get their way. Still, it is not an excuse for Kiyoka to act callously towards Miyo when they first met.

Later that day in My Happy Marriage episode 2, Kiyoka apologizes to Miyo for not trying her food. He explained that he didn’t want to try food from someone else he didn’t know. After this, he says he will rely on her for breakfast the next morning as Yuri, the house servant, won’t be up at the house until later on. Thus, Kiyoka gives Miyo another chance. I was so glad he did, too! As Kiyoka finds out, Miyo is an excellent cook.

Observations

In episode two of My Happy Marriage, I noticed something when Kiyoka started warming up to Miyo and being more attentive to her due to her humility. He immediately notices that her hands are like a servant’s and her clothes are threadbare even though she comes from a prestigious family. Kiyoka finds this hard to believe because prestigious women don’t have old clothes that constantly need repairing and hands like servants.

Kiyoka also noticed during supper that she did not have Yuri fix her something to eat, but simply waited for Kiyoka to finish eating. He did not realize it then, but Miyo isn’t used to eating much because her family tended to starve her. She is used to living off very little and she is unused to eating at the same time as her family. Kiyoka instructs her to make something for herself and eat with him from then on, which she does without complaint.

Kiyoka wonders what Miyo’s background was really like and chooses to hire a private investigator to answer how her family treated her before Miyo came to live with Kiyoka. Kiyoka has only a handful of clues to know that her childhood did not belong to a prestigious family. Yuri also helped Kiyoka realize his ways were too harsh for Miyo and that seemed different from his other fiancés. I think Kiyoka takes Yuri’s advice to heart because he remarks that her taking up for his fiancé was something Yuri normally does not do. Yuri sees Miyo’s true intentions from the start and thinks she is a perfect match for Kiyoka, too.

Review of My Happy Marriage Episode 2

My thoughts on the show so far, are that My Happy Marriage is a great show to watch. I love the animation and the colors and lighting they use to illuminate their eyes, the clothes they wear, etc. They use colors differently from Miyo and her family. Miyo’s colors are more muted in comparison until she comes to live with Kiyoka. Then she becomes brighter and more beautiful the more she develops into herself.

We haven’t gotten far into the series yet being only on episode two, but episode three will focus on Kiyoka and Miyo’s first date. This is further than any other fiancés Kiyoka has been introduced to before! Kiyoka was looking to settle down, he’s not flighty, but he does not want a spoiled rich kid who was just after his power and money. That was how he viewed the other fiancés and how they acted.

Kiyoka and Miyo will prove to be a good match for each other, but that doesn’t mean they still won’t have their difficulties. Without getting too far into it, Miyo has trouble opening up to Kiyoka about her past even though Kiyoka encourages it. There are many more dangers for the couple that won’t be explored until a later episode. But like all couples, they eventually overcome.

Until then, keep watching, and keep reading! Be on the lookout for the newest season to come out. As of now, the news is that it is in production, but no dates have been announced.

Where to Watch My Happy Marriage

My Happy Marriage is a retelling of the familiar Cinderella story but with a supernatural twist. Some people have what’s called “the gift” and then there are others who are not born with a supernatural ability. We are introduced to our main characters quite early on. Miyo, who is seemingly not born with a gift is treated poorly by her family and then thrown away to marry Kiyoka Kudo. But what starts as an abrupt change in her life quickly becomes one for the better. My Happy Marriage streaming on Netflix.
