Marvel Zombies Series: Everything We Know About the Upcoming Disney+ Show
The upcoming Disney+ animated series Marvel Zombies is generating a lot of buzz, with official announcements and some leaks swirling around among Marvel fans across the internet. The MCU has had a consistent schedule this year, and after Marvel Zombies, the next one up is Wonder Man in December. Though the MCU has not yet announced the final details about the last series of the year.
It was recently confirmed that the original air date for the new series has been moved up from October to September 24th of this year, as per the official Marvel Zombies webpage.
The Marvel Zombies Confirmed Cast
The confirmed cast for Marvel Zombies is shaping up to be an impressive lineup of fan-favorite talent. The series will feature Awkwafina, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Randall Park, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, Dominique Thorne, Iman Vellani, and Todd Williams. With such a diverse and dynamic group of actors, many reprising their roles from the MCU, the show promises a thrilling and action-packed addition to the Marvel animated universe.
The What If…? Story So Far
Episode 5 of What If…?, titled “What If… Zombies?!”, delivered one of the most chilling and unexpectedly emotional stories in the MCU’s animated lineup. It all begins when Hank Pym rescues Janet van Dyne from the Quantum Realm, only to bring back a deadly quantum virus that sparks a full-scale zombie apocalypse on Earth. What followed was an intense, horror-tinged survival tale that saw a scrappy group of heroes, including Spider-Man, Bucky Barnes, Okoye, and Hope van Dyne, trying to stay alive while searching for a cure.
There were some shocking twists packed into a short runtime. Hope’s heroic sacrifice, Vision secretly feeding survivors to a zombified Wanda, and Banner turning into the Hulk in a last-ditch effort to buy time for the remaining survivors. But the real gut punch came at the end, when we saw a zombified Thanos standing in Wakanda, armed with a nearly-complete Infinity Gauntlet. That cliffhanger left fans with more questions than answers, and now, with the upcoming Marvel Zombies spinoff series, we finally have a chance to see what happens next.
The Marvel Zombies Comics
Fans of the original Marvel Zombies comic series know just how wild and unpredictable this universe can get. In the comics, the infected heroes retain some of their intelligence and personalities, making them even more dangerous. Some even travel to other planets to spread the virus beyond Earth. If the animated series takes inspiration from those stories, we could see zombified Avengers battling survivors across the cosmos, the virus threatening the multiverse itself, or even a power struggle between undead versions of Marvel’s most powerful characters. With a bold concept, a strong voice cast, and a deep well of comic lore to draw from, this series has the potential to take Marvel animation into dark, exciting territory we’ve never seen before.

The Scarlet Witch Rumors
According to a recent report from Nexus Point News, Marvel Zombies is poised to bring Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff to the forefront once again—this time as a terrifying force dubbed the “Dead Queen.” While this report has yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, the idea is generating a lot of excitement. Wanda’s brief but devastating appearance in What If…? already showed just how unstoppable she is in a zombified state, going toe-to-toe with the Hulk and surviving. Her blend of chaos magic and undead hunger made her one of the most memorable threats of that episode. If these claims hold true, seeing her in a central antagonist role would be a chilling and fresh twist, especially for fans who have followed her complex evolution across the MCU.
The report also suggests that Okoye will act as a secondary villain, leading an undead army under Wanda’s command—a surprising and eerie turn for the once-loyal Dora Milaje general. Zombie versions of Ghost, Hawkeye, Abomination, Captain Marvel, and Captain America are also said to be confirmed, promising a gruesome gallery of infected heavy-hitters. Adding to the speculation, Nexus Point News hints at appearances from characters like John Walker, Baron Zemo, Namor, Melina Vostokoff, Thor, Valkyrie, and Black Panther. Whether these characters will stand against the undead or fall victim to the virus remains to be seen, but their inclusion hints at a sprawling, high-stakes storyline.
While the report should be taken with a grain of salt until Marvel confirms it or the official release of the new series, the potential direction sounds interesting enough. If true, Marvel Zombies could deliver a bold narrative where Scarlet Witch fans get to see an alternate, villainous evolution of Wanda—one that leans fully into her immense power and dark potential in a post-apocalyptic setting.
