One of the standout characters in the Marvel series Wandavision was Agatha Harkness, played keenly well by Kathryn Hahn. Hahn has now secured a streaming series with Agatha All Along premiering Disney Plus right on time for the spooky season. The Tiny Beautiful Things actress recently stopped by The Tonight Show to share details on the spinoff series’ plot and cast of characters with Jimmy Fallon including That 70’s Show star Debra Jo Rupp and renowned Broadway actress Patti LuPone.
A “Wandavision” Recap
Wandavision was what kicked off the MCU’s phase four line of streaming series, airing back in early 2021. The limited series starred Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, who both reprised their respective roles as the enhanced Sokovian sorceress Wanda Maximoff and the synthetic humanoid Vision. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, the series followed Maximoff and Vision believed to be living a peaceful, sitcomesque life in Westview, NJ.
As outside forces begin to interfere in the cosmic couple’s lives, the truth of what’s occurring is eventually revealed. In a fit of rage and grief over the loss of her second half to the genocidal mad titan Thanos, Wanda uses her magic to conjure up a Vision of her own in a plot of land meant for the two to live in.
The town and countless citizens of Westview are unintentionally hexed by Wanda who transforms all of their lives into sitcom characters she grew up watching on shows such as I Love Lucy and Malcolm in the Middle. Kathryn Hahn’s Harkness assumed the role of Wanda’s best friend and neighbor, Agnes, to learn how she acquired so much power.
Kathryn Hahn Teases “Agatha All Along” Plot Details on Tonight Show
Accomplished character actor and Saturn Award nominee Kathryn Hahn returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her limited series Agatha All Along premiering on Disney Plus on September 18. The series picks up after the events of Wandavision in which Wanda Maximoff transforms Agatha into a normal civilian whom she dubbed the nosy neighbor. A few days before its official release, Hahn stopped by The Tonight Show to dish some plot details on the Marvel miniseries.
“It’s her slow realization that she is who she is in this circumstance. The show is about her fight to get her power back by any means necessary. We have to go through a treacherous road to get there,” the Tiny Beautiful Things star revealed. Many of the residents in the city of Westview return as Debra Jo Rupp and Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Emma Caulfield can be seen in the new Marvel series.
Final Thoughts
Kathryn Hahn earning her own Marvel miniseries will surely showcase more of her stellar acting chops. The previews and first episode maintain that same great dichotomy between the campy, charming fun, and dreading creepy undercurrent that Agatha possessed in Wandavision. Hahn said herself on the Tonight Show that there are not any Agatha Harkness solo comic books so she was genuinely shocked alongside fans to get the phone call asking if she was open to further exploring her character. With a show-stopping cast including Broadway stars and some veterans from the greatest television series and sitcoms, Agatha All Along will be an interesting binge-watch for any horror and thriller enthusiasts.
