Summer hasn’t even arrived yet and the trailer for A Family Affair has fans feeling the heat as they watch the steamy scenes between (Chris Cole) Zac Efron and (Brooke Harwood) Nicole Kidman unfold on their screens.
Efron is showing off his spectacular body alongside the beautiful Nicole Kidman who gets swept up in a risque romance while Kidman’s daughter, Zara Ford (Joey King), played by Joey King has to come face-to-face with the news. The well-known actress, Kathy Bates is also shown in the trailer, she plays Leila Ford who also seems attracted to Efron’s character. Who wouldn’t be?
The rom-com will be premiering on Netflix later this month on June 28th. It will come as no surprise if the movie hits Netflix’s top 10 as soon as it drops.
A Family Affair Reunites Actors

A Family Affair won’t be the first time Kidman and Efron spark up our screens. Previously, Kidman and Efron had worked together in the crime drama The Paperboy in 2012.
Paperboy had the two swept up in a lustful relationship and now the two will be back in the same circumstance. The Paperboy was one of Efron’s first mature roles after he was in High School Musical.
While it seems that it is King’s first time working with Kidman and Efron, it won’t be her first time in a romantic comedy movie. King has been in plenty of romcoms and drama movies over the years. Kidman and Efron have taken on plenty of different genres throughout their careers from thrillers to romcoms, comedy, and action.
A Family Affair’s Plot
Netflix’s A Family Affair finds Brooke Harwood and Chris Cole in a steamy position that instantly turns awkward when Brooke’s daughter walks in on them in the compromising position.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of what will happen in the movie. It begins with Zara ranting to her friend played by Liza Koshy about her mom’s new relationship with her boss. Then it quickly changes to Zara walking in on the two and running away while all of them scream and hit her head in the process.
The trailer also shows more of the relationship between Zara (Joey King) and her boss, Chris. It seems he is one of those cruel bosses who does not appreciate anyone and cares only for material items like his one-of-a-kind “shahtoosh” that Zara (Joey King) mistakenly places with his “dirty sneakers” in a plastic bag when she returns it to his home. “It’s one of a kind. I only have two!” Chris angrily yells at her.
An Older Woman Finding Love With a Younger Man
It seems that there have been a few movies (The Idea of You) popping up lately with a main character finding love with a younger man and a daughter who isn’t that much younger than the love interest. Although we don’t know the actual age range between the characters, Efron is 12 years older than King in real life so it shouldn’t be that far off in the movie.
The mom finding love again is something that occurs in real life. It can be difficult to find love again for moms after losing their spouse either from dying or divorce.
It’s difficult for moms to find love again because they have devoted a good chunk of their lives to being moms and focusing on their child/children. Sometimes moms lose who they were before they became moms and that’s what makes it hard for them to embrace love again, especially if it’s a younger love interest.
A Family Affair Is Relatable
It’s a great plot that every mom going through a similar situation can relate to, even the part about falling in love with a younger man. For some reason, it is not seen in a good light for an older mom to date a much younger man, and movies like A Family Affair and even The Idea of You bring this to the viewer’s attention.
Love is love in the end and ultimately the characters realize that and decide to go for it instead of pushing love away. For A Family Affair, viewers will soon find out how the story unfolds once it is released on Netflix this month.
