With a variety of different series to choose from, follow along with the casts of your favorite shows as they unpack each episode of their beloved series. In this article, we’ll examine the recent increase in popularity of rewatch podcasts, what they are, and review some popular examples. Let’s take a look!

What are Rewatch Podcasts?

A rewatch podcast is when the cast and crew of a show get together to rewatch their series, often for the very first time since filming it. They go through each episode one by one, adding fun behind-the-scenes tidbits and exclusive content. Usually, their rewatches include exciting anecdotes and stories from filming, delighting fans of the beloved series. For most hosts, it is their first time watching many of the show’s episodes since initial filming.

What’s with the Sudden Surge of Rewatch Podcasts?

Is it the age-old absence that makes the heart grow fonder trope? How, as people, do we tend to romanticize the past? Can it be chalked up to our constant pursuit of that feeling of nostalgia? Maybe. But, no matter what, I think it brings people comfort. Allowing fans to relive their favorite shows with the people who made them is comforting.

Plus, it provides a whole new perspective on each show by giving fun behind-the-scenes information, provides detailed context of what goes into each episode, and sheds new light on how the show was made. Listening to these podcasts allows you to gather more information than you would get just from watching the episodes alone and sheds light on the whole filmmaking process. Overall, I think these podcasts are a great way to connect to an entire new community of fans out there. After all, audiences who love the show find it fun and heartwarming, and what’s the problem with that? Couldn’t we all use a little more of that in today’s world?

Fan-led Rewatch Podcasts

Some rewatch podcasts, such as The Prestige TV podcast, are fan-led. The hosts cover a variety of different shows, often recapping several series at once. With a passion for television, the hosts dive deep into each analysis and really analyze every aspect of storytelling. They also include guests on specific episodes, often people involved in the episode’s production, such as the cast and crew. For example, during the hosts’ rewatch of Barry, they had Bill Hader on as a guest to talk about the making of the show. Other guests have included Succession executive producer Mark Mylod, The Last of Us showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, and The White Lotus creator Mike White.
