Hazbin Hotel Unveils Mind-Blowing Lore and Confirms Theory

“Hazbin Hotel” Season 2 premiered last week, much to the delight of the worldwide fanbase. We witnessed the beginning of the next chapter of Charlie Morningstar’s adventures in bettering Hell. This time, the stakes are higher now that she discovers that redemption is possible. And the Overlord triad, known as the Vees, plan to conquer Heaven and become gods.

This week’s two new episodes showcase the aftermath of Charlie taking in Emily’s news. And each dropped some major lore of various characters, including Alastor the Radio Demon. Would you like to find out what it is and what ultimately happened?

Season Two Takes an Intense Turn

“Hazbin Hotel” Episode 2×03, titled “Hazbin Hotel: Behind Closed Doors,” picks up immediately after 2×01. Charlie, excitedly, decides to share the news about redemption with the rest of Pentagram City. She invites the Overlords Vox and Velvette to help in this endeavor. It unfortunately fails, then Charlie’s Overlord guests slander her and the hotel’s public image. Meanwhile, Cherri Bomb goes to Baxter to learn more about Sir Pentious.

Episode 2×04 “It’s a Deal” showcases Charlie attempting to repair the damage the Vees caused. But the main story focuses on Alastor after he quits the Hazbin Hotel. He returns to Cannibal Town to discuss a past deal he had with Rosie. The discussion doesn’t end in his favor, leading him to concoct a clever scheme. Afterward, Alastor battles the Vees, then willingly surrenders and joins his media-based adversaries.

“Hazbin Hotel” Brings More Backstories

The greatest takeaway from these new “Hazbin Hotel” episodes is that they reveal major lore. In 2×03, Vox sadistically reveals that Angel Dust got into Hell for murdering his father. The reason remains unknown, but it could come to light in a future episode. The episode also revealed that Sir Pentious and Baxter used to work together. But they had a falling out after Baxter’s experiments turned more “violent” and “cruel.”

The biggest lore dump came in 2×04, and it revolved around Alastor. It revealed that he used to be a New Orleans radio host and serial killer. He eventually summoned a demon from Hell, who turned out to be Rosie. She offers Alastor incredible power in exchange for accomplishing something for her. And until he settles his debt, Rosie holds onto his soul.

An Alastor Theory Confirmed

In addition to dropping some lore regarding Alastor, 2×04 confirmed a fan theory surrounding him. It was revealed in Season One that someone holds possession of his soul. And the show’s many fans began formulating theories on who the mysterious individual was. The top choices were Lilith, Rosie, and the Root of All Evil. Ultimately, 2×04 ended the discussions by revealing that it is the cannibal queen, Rosie.

A plausible and somewhat predictable reveal, but shocking to fans nonetheless. It makes you wonder what fan theory next week’s episodes could confirm or disprove. The only thing we can do now is see what happens when “Hazbin Hotel” returns.

Final Verdict and Thoughts

I give “Hazbin Hotel” Episodes 2×03 and 2×04 a 9.5 and 9.9, respectively. The cons of “Hazbin Hotel: Behind the Scenes” were Charlie’s naivety despite her recent development. And “It’s a Deal” delivered a semi-predictable reveal regarding Alastor and Rosie. Nevertheless, these episodes were entertaining and possessed many redeeming qualities.

Personally, I found “It’s a Deal” to be the more powerful of this week’s episodes. It was intriguing to see an Alastor story and learn more about his life. But its counterpart brought some fun underhandedness from Vox and mind-blowing character lore. I’m excited to see what happens next Wednesday on “Hazbin Hotel.”
