Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi

From Jedi to Honest Fan: Ewan McGregor Wonders About Obi-Wan in Andor

Ewan McGregor, who wonderfully played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, has binge-watched all the episodes of the acclaimed Star Wars Disney+ series Andor, and now he laments not being in the series. Although McGregor starred in the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, he loved Andor so much that he wishes Disney and Lucasfilm would put out another season just so Obi-Wan could be in it.

Ewan McGregor appeared at a panel during Fan Expo Chicago, along with his prequel co-star Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker. McGregor discussed how he was late to the party when it came to watching Andor. Entertainment Weekly reported that he said about Andor, “I missed it when it came out. I always come to things late. I watched the first episode of it at home with my little boy and then I realized what everyone was talking about.” McGregor went on to watch the entire series, saying, “I thought it was great. I really liked it.”

Then, of course, McGregor wondered if he could be in the show, saying, “I got really excited. I was thinking, ‘I think I’m in this timeline, I think I could be in season 3!’ And I got super excited. And then I realized, ‘Oh no… There can’t be a season 3!'” Indeed, the show’s lead character, Cassian Andor, was killed off at the end of Rogue One, which means that the show can’t continue afterwards.

How Would Obi-Wan have Fit Into Andor?

There’s also the question of how the show could have fit Obi-Wan into it. Andor and Rogue One are direct prequels to A New Hope, and as every Star Wars fan knows, Obi-Wan is living in exile on Tatooine during A New Hope. Of course, Obi-Wan’s twenty-year exile didn’t stop him from leaving the planet to rescue a ten-year-old Princess Leia in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, but he still has to be on Tatooine later on so he can go with Luke Skywalker to the Death Star. In addition, Rogue One includes Bail Organa referencing how he is sending for his friend Obi-Wan to help, meaning that yes, Obi-Wan is on Tatooine.

Is Ewan McGregor in Any Future Star Wars Projects?

Despite rumors that he would be in Ahsoka Season 2, McGregor is not confirmed for any future Star Wars projects as of the writing of this article. Still, if there’s one thing Star Wars teaches us, it’s to never lose hope. Perhaps Ewan McGregor will don his Jedi robes again someday. The fans would definitely love to see him again in the galaxy far, far away.
