Daredevil fans have reason to look forward to spring. Following a long delay, the iconic character is finally ready to make his full-time return to the small screen. Daredevil: Born Again, a new series featuring the Marvel legend, is slated to make its streaming debut on March 4, 2025. The series will mark a fresh start for Matt Murdock, whom viewers last saw in Echo.
A New Era for Daredevil
Daredevil: Born Again comes with high expectations. The new show will act as a soft reboot following the critically acclaimed Netflix series Daredevil, which aired for three seasons from 2015 to 2018. While fans were disappointed when the series was canceled, its gritty tone left a lasting impression. So much so that Disney+ decided to not only bring back Matt Murdock but find a cushy place for him within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil for an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Echo, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. His days as a side character are now put to rest. Born Again will bring him back into the spotlight, giving fans plenty to be excited about.
Daredevil: Born Again Known Details
Born Again nods to a Daredevil comic storyline originally written by Frank Miller and drawn by David Mazzucchelli. The storyline focuses on Murdock’s collapse and eventual rise from the ashes. Plot details for the series have been kept under wraps so far, but we can confirm that Vincent D’Onofrio will return as the formidable Kingpin.
Unlike other Marvel projects, Daredevil has always embraced a darker tone. The original Netflix series was widely known for its brutal fight scenes and ethical dilemmas. Moreover, it explored complex themes like justice, guilt, and redemption. Fans expressed concern that the move to Disney+ will tone down the show’s darkness, especially after Murdock’s lighthearted She-Hulk cameo.
However, Born Again is expected to switch back to gritty and dive deeper into Murdock’s internal struggles and street-level crime-fighting. That should be excellent news for long-time viewers. Turns out, Charlie Cox’s character was even allowed to drop an F-bomb. After Deadpool & Wolverine, an R-rated success, there’s no wonder Marvel decided to stay true to Daredevil’s more somber origin.
Episode Count and Cast
Daredevil: Born Again will consist of 18 episodes at least, split across two seasons. This longer episode count has led to speculation that the series will offer an extensive look at Murdock’s world. The story will likely develop at a slower, more deliberate pace, allowing veteran and new fans a chance to readjust to the masked vigilante. Viewers can also expect intense, tightly choreographed fight sequences, one of the hallmarks of Daredevil’s Netflix days.
Besides Cox and D’Onofrio, Daredevil: Born Again also brings back Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. Rounding out the cast are Ayelet Zurer, Wilson Bethel, Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, and Jeremy Earl.
Final Thoughts
A new Daredevil show has been in the works for a while but was plagued by delays. It experienced a creative overhaul and was then postponed due to the Hollywood strikes. Thankfully, long-time viewers can finally start a countdown. Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. Until then, you have plenty of time to rewatch the original Daredevil series, available on Disney+, or catch up with any MCU projects you might have missed. It will be interesting to see how the blind hero will fit into this ever-expanding universe.
