Cha Hee Joins Disney+ Captivating Political Series “Made in Korea”

South Korean actress Cha Hee is continuing her global expansion by joining Disney+’s audacious project Made in Korea. She joins a star-studded cast that includes two of the country’s biggest male stars, Jung Woo Sung and Hyun Bin. She’ll play a big role as Hyun-Bin’s character’s sister in the crime series.

Set in the 1970s, Made in Korea is a crime TV series that follows the story of Baek Ki-Tae, played by Hyun-Bin, an ambitious man driven by his desire for wealth and power. In his pursuit of success, he conflicts with tenacious prosecutor Jang Gun-Young, played by Jung Woo-Sung. With his brute-like instincts and relentless determination, Jang Gun-Young becomes committed to stopping Baek Ki-Tae at any cost; however, a major incident arises and changes the game for them both.

Cha Hee as Baek So-Yeong

Famous for her roles in The Worst of Evil and the Netflix original Jung_E, Cha Hee will join Made in Korea as Baek Ki-Tae’s sister, a key supporting character. On September 4, Youth Entertainment announced that Cha Hee’s role and promises the actress will showcase a wide range of emotional acting as a character living in a turbulent era. Cha Hee joins Choi Yoo-Ji (played by Won Ji-An), a skilled lobbyist; Oh Ye-Jin (played by Seo Eun-Su), a dedicated investigator; Bae Geum-Ji (played by Cho Yeo-Jeong); and Cheon Seok-Joong (played by Jung Sung-Il), who serves as the chief secretary.

Period Political and Crime Drama

The political crime drama series will feature some of the major events that shaped Korea’s modern and contemporary history. The series is directed by Woo Min-Ho, who’s famous in the crime-thriller genre for movies like Inside Men and the 2018 blockbuster hit The Drug KingMade in Korea will be his first foray into small-screen political drama.

Another Addition to Disney+’s Original K-Drama Slate

Produced by Hive Media Corp., the series is co-written by Park Eun-kyo, famous for Sea of Tranquility, and Park Joonseok, who made A Normal Family. Disney+ continues to ride the wave of 2024 after their series A Shop for Killers stood out as the year’s most-viewed Korean original series on the platform, alongside The Tyrant. Joining other series in the line-up like Gangham B-Side and Light ShopMade in Korea is set to premiere in 2025.
