Bridgerton’s long-awaited season is out. Is it everything that fans wished and hoped for? Or did our season’s newest hunk’s personality change distract fans from fully getting on board with this season’s love match?
After only four episodes, fans will need to wait another month to get more out of the Polin love story in the rest of Bridgerton’s season 3. However, to most fans, it seems the Polin (Colin and Penelope) plot was rushed and barely showed Colin’s change in feelings for Penelope. The episodes didn’t allow fans to fully immerse themselves in the main plot because of the other plots in the episodes.

Many fans also questioned Colin’s development, wondering how he could change in such a short amount of time after leaving abroad for one summer. In Bridgerton’s season 3, we see a newly polished version of Colin Bridgerton’s return from his summer adventures abroad. He returns to society dressed to impress in clothes made in France and can easily woo women with his flirty comments.
It seems his summer escapades have altered his personality from being a sweet and thoughtful gentleman to one who spends nights at brothels and has sexual adventures with multiple women. At first glance, the viewer will believe that he has turned into another man’s man as he goes about his days in society. However, it seems that this change, although fast, was necessary for him to learn about himself.
Glow Ups and Personality Changes
At the same time, Penelope was also wearing a mask to feel seen and loved but eventually turned to wanting to be married to escape her family. She was left hurt by Colin in season 2 after hearing him proclaim to his friends he would never court her, creating a rift between the two. Just like Colin, Penelope has a glow-up with a new wardrobe, makeup, and hairstyles to match.
Though there is tension between the two in Bridgerton’s season 3 because of Colin’s comments, after hearing how he hurt Penelope, he sets out to make things right and turns into her mentor to help her find a husband. But as they spend more and more time with each other, Colin quickly realizes his feelings for Penelope once they kiss. Instead of enjoying himself when he receives attention from the women of society and sharing his adventures with his friends, he focuses his attention on Penelope.
Friendship and Love
After the kiss, Colin asks his mother, Violet Bridgerton, about love and friendship. He finally realizes what has been in front of him, just like Marinna had tried to tell him in season 1 of Bridgerton. His mask finally starts to falter, and he doesn’t seem as thrilled and eager to be in bed with two women as he did before.
The fact that Colin seems dissuaded in his newly established life tells the viewer that Penelope unknowingly made an impact on his heart. He chooses her and leaves the brothel, having not participated in the activity as he had previously. His “cool bro” persona is gone, and his true self is back, but this time he realizes his love for her isn’t just because of their friendship. It’s because he truly loves her as a friend and more.
The personality change may have upset many TV fans, but we still have the rest of Bridgerton’s season 3 to see his feelings for her in their truest form when it returns to Netflix in June.
