Apple TV Now Has ‘Stick’ For Comedic Relief For Viewers Starring Owen Wilson
It’s pretty much everywhere you look – short ad previews for Stick. If you pull up a video you want to see online, you get the show’s advertisement. But what is it? It’s Apple TV+’s s new comedy series, starring Owen Wilson and Peter Dager. It also stars Judy Greer, Marc Maron. Timothy Olyphant, and Mariana Treviño. Let’s take a look and see if this is a hole-in-one.
The Premise of Stick
Owen Wilson stars as Pryce “Stick” Cahill. Pryce was a former champion golfer, who hit some hard times. His peak was about 20 years ago, then his marriage broke up, his career got derailed and he ended up working at a sporting goods shop. Subsequently – and unsurprisingly – Pryce got fired from there.
Throwing caution to the wind, Pryce decides he wants to start mentoring a young golf player. Santi (portrayed by Peter Dager) is the young golfer. Pryce sees much of himself in the teenage Santi and the two soon form a bond. Can Pryce help Santi become a golf champ? Will Santi help Pryce move forward in his life?
Programming Notes on Stick
Apple TV+ has Stick for a 10-episode season. The first three episodes premiered on Wednesday, June 4th. Then each following installment will be on every Wednesday until July 23rd.
Who Else Guest Stars in Stick?
A few golfing pros make appearances in the show. They include Collin Morikawa. Keegan Bradley, Wyndham Clark, and Max Homa. Plus there’s a cameo by golf enthusiast Dan Rapaport. It looks as though it’s a talented cast with good support. The viewers who have watched the pre-screening have said Owen Wilson gives a really great performance.
The Verdict on Stick
This looks like the show is going to be an amusing sports comedy. We’re definitely ripe for one after the beloved show Ted Lasso! Potentially in the same vein as Happy Gilmore and Caddyshack, we’re looking forward to Stick. Hopefully it will score a hole-in-one and not putter. (See what we did there?)
