Daily Devotion Monday Motivation | February 2, 2026

Happy Monday. It’s time for your daily devotion. Job is considered the oldest book in the Bible, yet it’s applicable today. In your daily devotion, realize Job teaches you lessons about trust, suffering, and God’s sovereignty.

Greatest Man in the East

Job is introduced as a man who is “perfect and upright,” one who fears God and hates evil. He’s “the greatest of all the men in the east,” a resume that gets one noticed by Satan. He doesn’t like seeing God’s children prosper, and he’ll do anything to thwart their progress. In Job 1, the sons of God present themselves before God.

Interestingly, Satan shows up among these angelic beings, and God asks him, “Hast thou considered my servant Job?” God never asks a question seeking an answer, for He knows all things. He knows Satan’s been trying to find a crack in Job’s armor. Satan proves he’s been stalking Job by replying, “Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side?” In today’s daily devotion, know that no matter what Satan tries, God is your protector.

Trusting in God

Satan contends that if God were to take away his possessions, Job would curse Him. God permits Satan to take Job’s goods. The enemy sweeps in and takes away everything, but Job continues to bless God. Job isn’t privy to what happened, so he thinks God is the taker, yet he continues to trust Him. In today’s daily devotion, sometimes God allows your trust in Him to be tested.

Enduring Suffering

On another day, God speaks with Satan and mentions that Job has kept his integrity. But Satan insists that if Job were to suffer physically, he’d curse God. After being given permission, Satan makes haste to break down Job’s health, leaving him with boils all over his body. He’s in such pain that all he can do is sit in the ashes and scrape himself with a broken piece of pottery.

Even in suffering, you must remain steadfast. You may not know the reason, and you may question it like Job. However, you must continue to believe God is righteous. He never changes. In this daily devotion, know that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

In chapter 2, Job’s three friends arrive to comfort him. They take one look at Job and crumble in grief. When Job speaks, he curses the day he was born. Jobs feels trouble struck him without provocation. Then his friends begin to accuse Job of wrongdoing because surely God wouldn’t punish him without cause. In your daily devotion, say, “Only God is the Righteous Judge.”

God is Sovereign

Notice Satan, who caused all the suffering, is now silent; he wants Job to think that God has done all the damage. Job stands his ground, maintaining his innocence in the face of these “miserable comforters.” He now wants an audience with God because he knows he’s righteous and has been unjustly attacked. Then Job hears from God and repents for his self-righteousness, which he placed before God’s.

In Monday’s daily devotion, it’s clear that Satan needs God’s permission to antagonize God’s people. He can’t strike at will. The entire test lasts about nine months; then God steps in and shows Job that He is sovereign and man’s role is to trust Him. God isn’t obligated to provide explanations.

Restoration

When God is silent, you must continue to walk in faith. Job’s friends speak from their limited knowledge, not divine revelation. God restores Job and doubles his possessions. In your daily devotion, learn the lessons in Job about trusting God, suffering, and God’s sovereignty.
