Daily Devotion: Feel Good Friday Thoughts | January 2, 2026
Happy Friday! It’s time for your daily devotion. Sometimes those on an evil path seem sharp as a tack, but they’re actually walking in darkness. They don’t have a sure footing, and verse 19 says wickedness blinds them:
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
In today’s daily devotion, decide you won’t be like the wicked and stumble in darkness.
The Way of the Wicked
Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” The wicked have no vision from God, because they’ve chosen the way of evil. Without the light of God’s word, they don’t see the danger before them.
In Proverbs, Solomon warns against following this path. Proverbs 5:22 says that the wicked man’s sins weigh him down. A popular saying is “Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.” Decide in this daily devotion that sin is too heavy a burden to bear.
It’s as Darkness
The evil path chosen by many is compared to darkness. If given a choice between light and darkness, most people would choose light. But the same people who’d choose light decide on the evil path. Why? The path doesn’t look dark initially. It looks bright and promising. It seems to hold the key to their happiness, and they think it’ll bring them success. However, it won’t. The enemy is behind this deception. He wants to string them along a path of evil and watch them get destroyed when it all falls apart.
However, as a child of God, you can steer clear of the darkness and walk in God’s light. In your daily devotion, know that light is available to all who choose to walk uprightly.
They Know Not
“They know not,” is an interesting phrase because most people on the evil path seem assured and confident. However, Solomon contends that they don’t know what they think they know. When Babylon besieged Jerusalem, King Zedekiah didn’t want to believe they wouldn’t be delivered. Even though Jeremiah warned him that the Babylonians would capture them and burn the city, he ignored Jeremiah’s instructions, which were from God.
Because Zedekiah refused to take heed, he watched his sons get killed, had his eyes gouged out, and went into captivity. All this could have been avoided had he listened to the prophet’s voice. Determine in this daily devotion that you will hear God’s word and not stumble in darkness.
At What They Stumble
The wicked don’t know what they stumble on because they think their pathway is clear. They don’t see anything wrong with the decisions they’re making. Everyone they’re in a relationship with may be traveling the same path. Their friends seem happy, so why should they be concerned? But treacherous obstacles fill their path. Their lives may be affected physically, emotionally, mentally, financially, psychologically, and relationally, but they don’t connect the dots.
When life seems too disruptive, you should ask, “Could things be like they are, because I am like I am? Without taking a self-inventory, the wicked stumble on the dark road that leads to destruction. In today’s daily devotion, say this out loud: “I will not stumble in darkness. I will walk in the light of God’s word.
Final Word
In Friday’s daily devotion, the importance of walking in God’s light is evident. The opposite is stumbling on a dark path. Embrace God’s light, and you will never walk in darkness.
