Daily Devotional Wednesday Wisdom with Total Apex Media | September 10, 2025

It’s time for Wednesday’s daily devotion. Let’s dig deep. Yesterday, we found David in Psalms 23:1, proclaiming the Lord as His Shepherd. David keeps it personal throughout this psalm, declaring that under the Lord’s protection, he has no lack. Today, let’s continue Psalm 23 by looking at verse 2. David says, “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”

David paints a picture of peace and tranquility as a result of being led by God. In the world, there are storms and tribulations, but in Christ, we have rest. David wasn’t free from trouble, and neither are we. However, there’s a place in the Spirit where we meet God that’s calm, peaceful. In today’s daily devotion, thank God for His peace that passes understanding.

Green Pastures

It’s important to know that the Lord gently leads; He doesn’t force or coerce us. The KJV uses the term “maketh” in this verse: “He maketh” me to lie down. However, David isn’t implying force, but the Lord’s gentle leading and guidance. David goes on to say that the Lord leads him to lie down, or rest, from the cares and distractions of life.

To lie down implies that you have entered a place of relaxation. You’re not working or striving to make things happen. Your mind isn’t running on all cylinders. You’re completely at rest in the Lord.

Replenish Your Faith

We all need times to step away from the busyness of life to be refreshed and renewed in Him. As people of faith, we know that when faith is expended, it needs to be replenished. How do we replenish our faith? We replenish it by spending time in the presence of God, reading His word, and meditating on His faithfulness.

Jesus would often retreat to pray and spend time with God while His disciples were elsewhere. If it was important for Christ, the Good Shepherd, to spend quality time with the Father during His earthly ministry, we should do the same. Take a moment in today’s daily devotion to praise God for refreshing and renewing you in Him.

Trust His Leading

The old Baptist hymn says, “Where He Leads, I will Follow.” Sheep are naturally stubborn, but with the right shepherd who knows how to lead them correctly, they follow. Jesus said, “My sheep know my voice.” He goes on to say they won’t follow a stranger. When you’re in a relationship with the Good Shepherd, you trust Him to lead you to green pastures.

Green signifies abundance, flourishing, and prosperity. God doesn’t lead us into devastation. He leads us into His abundant blessings. You may say that you’ve been in a dark, terrible place. However, God didn’t lead you there. Trust Him to pull you out and bring you into lush, green pastures. Then lie down in peace, trusting in Him.

No striving or wrestling with the burdens of life, but gently led by the Good Shepherd. The Living Bible says it like this: “He lets me rest in the meadow grass and leads me beside the quiet streams.” Take a moment in your daily devotion to worship the Good Shepherd.

Rest by Still Waters

Not only does your Shepherd lead you to green pastures, but He also brings you beside still waters. “Still waters” represents peaceful waters, not turbulent or chaotic. You can rest assured that your Shepherd will not lead you to rough, gushing streams.  You won’t need a life jacket and paddle like in river rafting. All you need is trust in God.

Release your faith. Stop overthinking situations. Release fear. Trust that through His guidance, you walk in God’s blessings. Walking in the life God purposed for you means trusting His guidance. Jeremiah 29:11 says, For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Thank God in today’s daily devotion that He has a purpose for your life.

Final Thoughts

Today, Wednesday’s daily devotion allows you to reflect on the gentle leading of your Shepherd to still, calm waters. Nothing can be more soothing than knowing He’s there throughout your life to lead you. David experienced it, so can you. Let Him lead you to green pastures where your faith is replenished and renewed. Trust your Shepherd’s leading and rest by still waters.
