Daily Devotion Thursday Thoughts with Total Apex Media | September 25, 2025

It’s time for Thursday thoughts in today’s daily devotion. We’ve been in Ephesians 6, where Paul discusses standing in God’s whole armor. It would be useless for a soldier to go to battle without being physically dressed. It’s more useless for us to meet Satan’s attacks without being spiritually dressed.

After you’ve done all, you’re standing. You’re dressed for the battle. Paul lists the items you need for spiritual warfare. He begins in verse 14 with the belt and breastplate.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Stand Therefore

Paul places much emphasis on standing. In the previous verse, he admonishes them to “stand” after they’ve done everything to prepare themselves. To be spiritually strong takes our efforts. It’s taking time in the scriptures, prayer, meditation, and fellowship with God. Without this preparation, you won’t be able to stand.

Your stance isn’t based on something foreign to you. It’s based on the word of God, which you know to be true. You’re not standing in fear but in confidence. In today’s daily devotion, thank God that you’re prepared and standing ready.

Gird Your Loins

The phrase “gird up your loins” is used throughout the Old and New Testaments. It’s used today as a colloquial expression, but it’s derived from the Bible. It means to prepare yourself spiritually, mentally, and physically for the battle you must face. It implies being ready for action. Never face a challenge unprepared. Start Thursday’s daily devotion by girding up your loins.

Belt of Truth

Truth is your foundation. Unless your salvation is based on truth, you’re subject to Satan’s deceit. For Roman soldiers, the belt was one of their basic armor pieces. Not just a strip of leather like today’s belt, their belts were large bands, made of leather and metal. It covered from their lower rib cage to their hipbone with a piece hanging down the front. Their sword and other weapons fit inside their belt.

The first part of your armor is God’s truth. When you hold on to the truth of God’s word, you’re rock steady, and the enemy can’t deceive you. He may threaten to take everything you have, but your response is “No, God supplies all my needs.” So stand on the truth of  God’s word in every circumstance. In today’s daily devotion, praise God that you’re equipped with His truth.

Having On

The KJV says having on, not putting on. This shows readiness and intentionality. Notice God doesn’t suit you in your armor. He doesn’t tell you to stand still while He dresses you. He makes them available. If you don’t put them on, you won’t be prepared for the battle. It’s up to every believer to put on their armor. Thank God in your daily devotion time that you intentionally have on your armor.

Breastplate of Righteousness

The next part of the armor is the breastplate of righteousness. Every Roman soldier understood the necessity of his breastplate. It protected the heart and vital organs. Without it, disaster could strike. The breastplate was attached to the belt. If it became loose from the belt, it could fall off. Your spiritual breastplate protects your heart. Your heart is filled with God’s word.

Your heart represents your spirit. You’re alive spiritually in Christ. You’ve been made righteous by Him.  Protect your righteousness by standing ready at all times. Righteousness and Truth can’t be separated. Neither can you be separated from God when you’re wearing the breastplate of righteousness.

Final Word

In today’s daily devotion, you’ve seen the first pieces of spiritual armor listed by Paul in Ephesians 6. He conveys the necessity and intentionality of how you’ve put them on. So have on the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness. They are the foundational truth and protection you need to stand strong.
