Daily Devotion Wednesday Wisdom | January 28, 2026

Itโ€™s Wednesday, and time for your daily devotion. After Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzarโ€™s dream of a large image made of distinct metals, the king built a golden statue.ย Then he set it up in Babylon for a dedication and worship ceremony. In todayโ€™s daily devotion, declare that you will worship God alone.ย

The Golden Statue

Daniel 3:1 reveals the kingโ€™s golden statue is impressive in size, and he sends word to all his rulers to appear in Babylon before it. Once there, they’re told, when the music plays, they’re to fall and worship the image. But thereโ€™s a warning: โ€œAnd whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.โ€

So when the music starts, people of all nations and languages fall to worship the image. Danielโ€™s three companions were renamed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. And itโ€™s reported to the king that they don’t bow to the statue as heโ€™d commanded. In your daily devotion, observe that the Hebrew boys feared God more than the king.ย

Upon hearing this, the king is enraged and demands that they be brought before him. First, he seeks to verify the report; then he gives them a chance to redeem themselves. If they hear the music and worship the image, everything will be fine.

But he issues a final warning: โ€œBut if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?โ€ The last part of his threat is quite bold since heโ€™s no match for the Hebrew boys’ God. In this daily devotion, notice the king isnโ€™t the first to defy the Living God, and not the first to encounter His might.

We Won’t Bow

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego calmly tell the king that God can deliver them from the fiery furnace, but if not, they still wonโ€™t bow. Infuriated, the king commands the furnace be turned up seven times hotter. Then theyโ€™re bound and thrown into it. The urgency of the kingโ€™s command and the intense heat from the furnace cause the men who throw them in to be consumed by the fire.

The king jumps up suddenly because he sees something that doesnโ€™t add up. He shouts, โ€œI see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.โ€ In your daily devotion, rejoice that you have a God who gets in the fire with you.

Recognizing the Living God

The king nears the opening of the furnace and calls them to come out. Verse 26 says, โ€œThen Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came forth of the midst of the fire.โ€ When they step out, their hair isnโ€™t singed, their clothes arenโ€™t burned, and they donโ€™t even smell like smoke. Then the king does something entirely unexpected.

He begins to bless their God, who stepped in and delivered them in such a miraculous way. The king decrees that if anyone says anything against their God, theyโ€™ll be destroyed, โ€œbecause there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.โ€ In todayโ€™s daily devotion, know that your God isnโ€™t an idol; Heโ€™s the true and living God.

The Only Deliverer

In Wednesdayโ€™s daily devotion, notice the three Hebrew boys never wavered in their commitment to worshipping God only. Although the king had acknowledged God when his dreams were revealed, he was an idolater. In today’s daily devotion, proclaim that your God is the only God who delivers after this sort.
