6 Morning Prayers to Start Your Day

Purposely starting your morning in prayer is a great way to start the day. Prayer is a gift God has offered us. It’s communication with Him that helps us understand that we’re not alone. We have a divine connection. He is not far away from us or unconcerned with what’s going on in our lives. Prayer is the way to enter into His presence.

When you pray, you’re acknowledging God as the highest power. You’re emptying yourself of pride by seeking His guidance and direction. You are admitting you need help.  Psalms 46:1 says God is our Helper. That’s not to say we wait until we’re in trouble to pray, but prayer builds a relationship with God. In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches us 6 types of prayers.

Worship

Jesus instructed His disciples in Matthew 6:9 to begin by praying, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” Worship leads us into the presence of God. We should worship God as we start our morning. Worship acknowledges that God is Holy and deserving of glory and honor.

Worship requires submission. When we worship God, we thank Him for who He is, unlike praise, which thanks Him for what He’s done.  Take a cue from King Solomon’s prayer of worship in 2 Chronicles 6:14-15. As you start your morning, begin with worship.

God’s Will

Believers are instructed by scripture to pray and use their spiritual authority to combat wickedness in the world. Your morning prayer should include asking that God’s will be fulfilled on earth just as it is in heaven. In heaven, there is no warfare, no violence, and no sickness. When our will aligns with His will and we stand in faith and unity, our prayer will be that His will is done on earth:

Daily Supply

In Matthew 6:11, Jesus continues, “Give us this day our daily bread.” In your morning prayer, thank God for meeting your needs for today. He promises to do so in Philippians 4:19. What God has promised, we believe. So thank God for showing you His goodness by providing this Friday’s daily supply. And pray in faith because whatever God says in His word is truth.

Forgive Others

In verse 11 of the Lord’s prayer, Jesus tells His disciples to forgive others, just as God has forgiven them. When we hold on to unforgiveness, we disobey God.  Unforgiveness violates God’s law, and forgiveness is a spiritual law. Breaking spiritual laws leads to undesirable consequences.

We cannot receive God’s best if we remain in sin. We end up stuck, and instead of hurting the person we won’t forgive, we hurt ourselves because we can’t move forward in God. So, it may not be easy  in some cases, but our prayer must be to forgive:

Avoid Temptation

Jesus continues His prayer with this:  “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Unfortunately, there are things in life designed to trip us up. We have an adversary who seeks to destroy us. He wants to tempt us into turning away from God. Temptations in life are inevitable, but it is up to us to hold on to the word and be strong.

When we know what God’s word says, it becomes our sure footing. The Apostle Paul says to put on spiritual armor to stand against the enemy’s deceptions. When tempted by wrong desires, resist them in your morning prayer,

Praise

Jesus ended His prayer with praise: “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.” Take the time to give God praise as the One who is powerful and the King eternal. When we magnify God, we enlarge Him in our own lives. When we exalt Him in our lives, nothing becomes impossible for us. God makes all things possible.

Final Thoughts

Morning prayer time is important. Starting our day by connecting with God shows that we honor Him and honor His presence. Set aside a quiet place and detach from everything around you. Then pray without distractions. Jesus gave us a guide in Matthew 6:9-13. Use it in the morning. Don’t just read it, but pray your way, and in your prayer time.
