Looks like Spike Lee has a new joint coming out with Denzel Washington called “Highest 2 Lowest”. Both the poster and trailer made their debut. This is a remake of an Akira Kurosawa movie called “High and Low,” which came out in 1963, which itself was based on a novel, ‘King’s Ransom’ by Ed McBain. This movie will follow Washington as a music mogul in a ransom plot, which puts him in a life and death situation. With stakes so high, and a plot this interesting, who can’t wait to see this movie?!!
What We Know About the Film
This film is set to premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival this month and will later be released in theaters by A24 and later on released on Apple TV+. It has been five years since Lee has directed a film, the last one being ‘Da 5 Bloods (2020)’, and 19 years since Washington and Lee have released a film together, with their last project being 2006’s ‘The Inside Man’. Denzel Washington has also worked with Lee on movies like ‘He Got Game’, ‘Malcolm X’, and Mo” Better Blues. So we know that, however this movie turns out, it will be a golden film for everyone to see.
Lee has stated on Variety.com, last year, about the film at the Red Sea Film Festival, “One of the best things about film school is that you get introduced to world cinema, not just Hollywood. Seeing Kurosawa’s film ‘Rashomon’ and its structure inspired me to make ‘She’s Gotta Have It.’ In ‘Rashomon,’ you have three people who witness a rape, and each gives their own opinion of what happened. In ‘She’s Gotta Have It,’ Nola Darling has three boyfriends who each see her in a different way. From the very beginning of my career, I was influenced by Kurosawa.”
Expect to See an All-Star Cast
This film also starring in the film Denzel Washington, with Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, Ice Spice, ASAP Rocky, Dean Winters, and John Douglas Thompson. With an all-star cast behind Lee, this is definitely going to be one of his better films as of late. It is due to hit theaters on August 22, 2025, with a streaming release date of September 5, 2025, on Apple TV+.
