Hold on tight, web slingers. We’ve got a delay, and folks have feelings about it. Sony Pictures ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ has been delayed to June 4, 2027. If you have some feelings about this, you aren’t alone.
The Movies
It would be difficult to be unaware of the animated Spider-Verse but, in case you missed it, a quick run-down. The first film, 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ introduced us to Miles Morales and his friends as well as the distinctive animation style that captured everyone’s attention. It was followed in 2023 by ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ with the promise of the third and final movie of the trilogy to be released in March of 2024.
The movies follow Miles Morales, as Spider-Man and other spider-powered individuals from alternate universes, joining forces and fighting together. The third movie is expected to start up where the second one left off.
Beyond the Spider-Verse Delays
Fans had a lot of doubt in that March 2024 date from the start. Would it be exciting to have the third installment so soon? Of course! But it’s highly unlikely that the animators could turn out the work that quickly. And, if you had those thoughts too, you were right.
There are a lot of comments about ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ across the internet about why this may have happened. But the studio tells us that it’s because they want the movie to be the best it can be. Let’s hear it from them.
According to Variety, producer Phil Lord and co-directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson said. “We know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back. So, we decided we needed to take the time to make sure we got it just right.” Lord said, “It’s going to be a massive finale to the trilogy.”
How Fans Feel About It
We fully expected to see a lot of anger in posts across the social media feeds, but the search didn’t find that at all. Folks were excited to get an update. They seem to like the ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse images. There is some disappointment, of course, but most seem to have thought the delay was inevitable. Way to go, fans! Stay cool and we’ll get the best conclusion that you want and deserve to have.
Final Thoughts
We’re disappointed too. It would be great to have the movie sooner rather than later but, we’d rather see it get the treatment it deserves so we have the experience we expect. Make it worth our hard-earned dollars! In the meantime, we’re off to rewatch the first two films so we’re ready when ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ is here!
