Finally, it seems like the scars are starting to fade, and the company is slowly getting back on its feet.
Some of KyoAni’s biggest sleeper hits, like Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and Tsurune, have already gotten new seasons. Now it is the turn for arguably one of the most underrated drama anime to get a continuation: Sound! Euphonium!

Sound! Euphonium! is the story of Kumiko Oumae, a young teenager who is just starting her freshman year in high school. Her determination to make a brand-new start is shattered when her two new friends, Hazuki and Midori, drag her into the brass band club of Kitauji High.
There, she returns to playing the euphonium, which she left behind in Middle School, and comes face-to-face with Reina – an old bandmate Kumiko has a strained relationship with.
Underpinning the interpersonal Drama is the collective desire by the Kitauji High School brass band to improve their playing and get gold at Nationals. This relatively slow-paced story shows a surprising amount of depth and develops the characters in realistic ways.

If you’re always keeping an eye on new anime releases, you might already know that Sound! Euphonium! Season 3 is currently serializing. With only four episodes having premiered at this point, it is a bit early to make a judgment call. It is pretty clear, though, that the production value hasn’t dipped at all, and maybe improved since season 2 and “Our Promise: A Brand New Day”.
The most obvious difference lies in the animation quality. Kyoto Animation has definitely put its all into rendering the people, instruments, and world. You’d be hard-pressed to find a series with more desktop wallpaper potential on air right now; let us put it that way. You can also tell that the characters have matured, and with that, we don’t only mean that they have gotten taller.
Kumiko is definitely growing into her position as club leader, as she is working hard to shine at her last chance to win the national brass band competition. How that will turn out, you will have to see for yourselves. You can find the whole of Sound! Euphonium! on Crunchyroll. Enjoy!
