Since its release back in January 2024, Solo Leveling has commanded the attention of the anime community with it’s gorgeous art style, it’s negative arc centric storyline and it’s command of animation movement through spectacular battle scenes. It’s no wonder that fans grow in number by the day and all of them are eager to hear news about the much coveted Solo Leveling Season 3.
With a full year between Season 1 and 2, we’re not expecting anything conrete for a while but an exciting Tweet by Atsushi Kaneko, the series’s producer, has stirred the embers of hope.
Is It Really Solo Leveling Season 3?
The post dropped on Kaneko’s X account on April 25th and said: ‘happy news coming’ with a hash tag to Solo Leveling and Crunchyroll. While it’s not exactly a release date for Solo Leveling Season 3, the Tweet follows on from a message left by Aleks Le on his own X account hinting that he knew when the next Solo Leveling season was going to be released.
Aleks’s Tweet was particularly humorous, aluding to Season 3 at the end of a fascinating breakdown of his creative input on the explosive finale of Season 2. He stated that he had information he could share and then went on to say: ‘so Season 3 is coming out-‘. He then cut to the ending credits of Season 2 before he could finish his sentence. It’s a brilliant tribute to the cliffhangers that dotted Season 2 and the light-hearted gripe of the fans who said that they had come to hate the sight of Sung Jinwoo’s feet. The combination of the two Tweets is leaving fans buzzing.
Is This Human?
Atsushi Kaneko previously anounced that Solo Leveling Season 3’s confirmation would depend on the fan’s support of the franchise but with the overall response to Solo Leveling as a whole, was this really ever in question? The series has a similar running theme as Sword Art Online with an overly OP character giving Hell to enemies that tend to underestimate him and Season 2 is no different.
Where Solo Leveling really brings the heat is in the flashy displays of Jinwoo’s unyielding prowess, the intimidation factor of the enemies he faces (the Ant King being a beautifully designed antagonist for Jinwoo to take down) and in the immaculate pacing of the story and resultant situations. But that’s not what’s bringing in new droves of fans by the day.
Aleks Le’s breakdown of the end of Season 2 and the way he constructed his lines is telling of the toll this flashiness is taking on our main character. Sung Jinwoo’s gradual descent into darkness is a masterpiece of story-telling where the protagonist is so caught up in the “game” he’s found himself in that he begins to lose his grasp on reality. The question constantly keeping the audience on the edge of their seat is of how far this character will go down this rabbit hole. What will be left of the altruistic boy who sacrificed himself in that first terrible dungeon when the material hits pique?
With all this intrigue, and with these questions still yet to be properly addressed in the series, it seems that Kaneko has nothing to worry about. Solo Leveling has stayed on the Popular pages of Crunchyroll since it’s debut and continues to be a much discussed obsession amongst anime connoisseurs.
Born To Be The Strongest
It’s hard to see a Tweet saying something like: ‘happy news coming’ without feeling the heavy ba-bump of your superfan heart against your chest, particularly when that Tweet is accompanied by a hash tag to the distributor of the anime. Though Kaneko’s previous anouncement stated that it would depend on how the fans showed their support for Solo Leveling as to whether it was renewed for another season, it would be hard pressed, considering how strong the hype is for this show, to see anything but a renewal in the cards, particularly when the English voice actor is so quick to tease the viewers.
There is still so much more to be explored in the character of Sung Jinwoo and in his supporting cast. We’ve yet to see our protagonist pay the ultimate price for his slow descent into madness or achieve the mantle of being the strongest, as he tells the Ant King he was born to be in those epic final moments of season 2’s brutal battle. So lets hope that the ‘happy news’ really does hint at the go ahead for the production of Solo Leveling Season 3 and, while we’re waiting for that precious release date, lets get ready for the ride of our lives.
