After an astounding nearly six-decade career, veteran soap opera actor Chris Robinson has passed away. With about 100 credits to his name, Chris played anything from a doctor, a police officer, to a maverick. He was best known for playing Dr. Rick Webber in General Hospital and Jack Hamilton on The Bold and the Beautiful. He had taken a break from acting, but returned in 2015 with the Navajo sci-fi film Legends from the Sky.
Chris Robinson’s Career Start
After some bit parts in the late 50s and early 60s, Chris started acting primarily in westerns. Eventually, he guest-starred on The Donna Reed Show. This led him to have guest appearances on other shows, which included Gunsmoke and the Alfred Hitchcock Hour. Eventually, Chris caught his big break when he was selected to play Sergeant Konansky in the wartime TV series 12 O’Clock High.
Prior to his acting in soap operas, like General Hospital, Another World, and The Bold and the Beautiful, Chris often played detectives, police officers, and doctors on TV shows. He was best known for his role as Dr. Webber on General Hospital.
Ironically, one of the most recognizable roles he had was not on a television show. He was on the now-infamous Vicks Formula 44 commercial, peddling cough syrup. Chris uttered the words “I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV.” His trustworthy stance of portraying a doctor certainly helped sales of cough syrup around the nation.
Chris’s good friend, writer and film director MJ Allen, had a recent collaboration in 2020. Chris played the titular lead in Yancey McCord: The Killer Arizona Forgot About. Additionally, Chris’s last project was playing the role of Frank in an upcoming western entitled The Forsaken.
Chris Robinson’s Legacy Lives On
We have dozens of TV shows and movies to watch, Chris. In his role as Dr. Webber, there have been multiple other characters created as his television children and grandchildren. As a man who had a long list of acting credits, his spirit will live on. Chris Robinson is survived by his wife, seven children, and five grandchildren.
