The TLC reality show Sister Wives is gearing up for its newest season. Over the past few seasons, we have witnessed the Brown family begin to fall apart at the seams. After the explosive season that detailed Christine leaving, the deterioration of Kody and Janelle’s relationship, and Meri leaving, everything just kept piling onto the Browns. Now, we see the aftermath in the newest trailer for season 19. Here’s everything we know about the highly anticipated season.
The Browns
The Brown family was the first polygamist family to go public on TLC in their reality show. The series showed a man, Kody Brown, and his four wives. Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robin were all married to Kody for varying lengths. Between the four of them, Kody has eighteen children. Sister Wives was meant to shine a more positive light on polygamy, or at least that was the intention of the Brown family.
First premiering in 2010, Sister Wives has had 18 seasons so far, each showing the ups and downs of the Brown family. Meri is Kody’s first wife, Janelle the second, Christine the third, and Robin is his fourth and final wife who joined the family right when the reality show began. Over the nearly fifteen years that the show has been on the air, we, as the audience, have seen the Brown family grow and decline. Now it seems that Kody will only have one wife, rather than the four he began with.
Sister Wives Season 18
Last season of Sister Wives, we saw the aftermath of Christine’s divorce from Kody, as well as the deterioration of his relationship with Janelle. While Kody was dealing with the anger of going through a divorce, Christine and Janelle only became closer. The two had been friends for a long time, while they each had complex relationships with the other sister wives. With Christine leaving Kody, it only made it easier for them to become even closer now that they no longer shared a husband.
Kody resented this fact, feeling like Janelle wasn’t being loyal to him, something that the two struggled with for a long time. There was a long-standing conflict between Kody and the sons he had with Janelle, a situation in which he also felt Janelle wasn’t being loyal to him. Both of those situations, as well as general relationship problems, contributed to the downfall of their marriage until their explosive fight early into the season. This fight led to the beginning of the end of their relationship, something that seems to have become fully realized in season nineteen.
Aside from the drama with Janelle, Kody also had issues with his other wives and his now ex-wife as well. He had issues co-parenting with Christine, issues with his first wife Meri and the dissolution of their marriage, as well as conflict with his fourth wife Robin. The season finished with the perceived end of his marriage with Janelle.
Season 19
In the new trailer for Sister Wives season 19, we see the aftermath of the ending of Kody and Janelle’s marriage. After Kody and Janelle’s explosive fight in season eighteen, their marriage seemed to be over. Season nineteen solidifies that with Janelle confirming that she and Kody have split ways.
Meri and Kody also seem to be getting closure on their relationship as well, with Kody claiming that he “married the wrong person” concerning Meri. The biggest plotline of the season, however, seems to be with the land. The Browns purchased a large plot of land called Coyote Pass in Flagstaff, Arizona. The intention of this land was for each wife to build a home on it. With wives leaving Kody left and right, the only wife that would build a house on it would be Robin.
The rest of Kody’s now ex-wives want to know what to do with the land. In the trailer, we see Janelle suggesting that Kody buy her out, something that he doesn’t seem keen on doing. Christine went through something similar when she first left Kody. The division of assets when most of the wives are not legally married to Kody Brown makes things complicated when it’s time for a “divorce.”
Final Thoughts
Sister Wives season nineteen is slated to be another drama-filled season, closing up the final marriage in the polygamist lifestyle of the Brown family. In the opening credits, there were always four rings on the letter ‘I’ in Wives; now, three of the four rings have fallen off, leaving only one. In season 19 we will see Kody Brown become a monogamous man.
