Bringing Music To Television
In 2001, Simon brought music competition shows to television with Pop Idol in the UK. After two seasons, they decided to take the show overseas to the United States, where American Idol was born, where the show started the careers of so many big names like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, and Jordin Sparks.
In 2004, Simon Cowell went back to the UK, where he started The X Factor, another singing competition show that also made some of the biggest names in the music industry, like One Direction, James Arthur, Leona Lewis, Olly Murs, and Little Mix. Eventually, he would go on to start the US version of The X Factor, bringing us acts like Fifth Harmony.
In 2006, Simon Cowell created America’s Got Talent, which allowed for the talent pool to be widened for other talents besides just singing and performing. Of course, the show did so well that Simon went on to start a UK version of the show, Britain’s Got Talent.
