Silent Hill f is the newest installment to the iconic horror series and has had a pretty successful launch. From selling over a million copies in just four days to earning an 86 Metacritic score, Silent Hill f has a pretty dedicated fan base, which has helped popularize the game even 2 months after the game officially launched. Silent Hill f director, Motoi Okamoto, opens up about the game and how things have turned out in the 2 months the game has been out. Here’s all that was said during the interview.

Silent Hill f Owes Its Popularity to Fan Art, Theories, Memes, and More

Silent Hill f became a hit after launch. Social media has become a huge medium to promote games, and Silent Hill f is no different. According to the devs, social media and the fan community are really big reasons to contribute to the game’s success.

Since Silent Hill f is the first mainline entry to be set entirely outside of the town of Silent Hill, and is based in Japan, the game has garnered an international following, which has contributed to its widespread success. From fan theories about the game to memes online, social media continues to keep the game relevant and popular.

Director Opens Up About the Game in New Interview

Silent Hill f director Motoi Okamoto and writer Ryukishi07 sit down with Dengeki Online in an interview, explaining that they owe the game’s success to social media and the large fan community that developed after the game launched. Here are some quotes from the interview that touch upon their thoughts about how successful the game has become.

“Recently, discourse about games has been consumed at a rapid pace,”

“But games that do get talked about even months after release are the ones that are fun to theorize about and analyze, and they usually get a lot of character fan art.”

“From my experience, titles which are able to show us that kind of hype tend to live on for longer.”

“ultimately boil down to how much the player resonates with them.”

“If the direction we took with f is well-received, hopefully it could become one of the examples of the Silent Hill series’ expressive range,”
