Good or Bad? Nordic Drama ‘Secrets We Keep’ Is Now On Netflix

Secrets We Keep

To stream or not to stream, that is the question. There is a new drama on Netflix called Secrets We Keep. The six-part series is about a missing au pair who works for a wealthy family in Copenhagen, Denmark. The dramatic thriller touches upon wealth, culture, and how it affects families in the Copenhagen neighborhood. So, is the Nordic show Secrets We Keep worth streaming?

Secrets We Keep Premise

The show opens up with a woman staring apprehensively out at the sea. Then it delves into the mystery of the missing au pair, Ruby. Cecilie and Mike are a couple who are friends of their neighbors who  employ the missing au pair (or nanny).

Cecilie, played by Marie Bach Hansen, is our protagonist. Cecilie, along with her nanny, Angel, is concerned about Ruby, and they start asking questions. Later, they’ll go to the police, who do not place the missing nanny as a priority. Between Cecilie’s relationship with the neighbors, the children, and community members, there is a lot to sort through in this series.

The Secrets in Secrets We Keep

The neighbors, Kat and Rasmus, who employed the missing nanny, have their own secrets. It seems their son has some problems of his own, too. Adding another twist, Rasmus and Mike are in business together. So, there are many layers to the drama which unfolds in six 34–35 minute long episodes.

Secrets We Keep – Is It Streamable?

The series is taped along the north coast of Copenhagen. The attractive scenery is both hauntingly cold, yet shows the affluence of the people who reside there. Between marinas with watercraft and yachts, expansive homes, and the seemingly perfect lifestyle, there are deep cracks. In Secrets We Keep, It’s all about the discovery of what lies underneath. Cecilie must make a reckoning with that in order to find out what’s going on.

A Few Final Thoughts

Secrets We Keep is not to be confused with The Secrets We Keep – as there are two other movies that add “The” in front of it. They are different, as one is about a podcaster, and the other is a post-World War II movie. If you’re in the mood for a taut drama, set against a gray, beautiful, and chilly backdrop, Secrets We Keep might be the perfect secret for you to stream.
