Billy Ray Cyrus Breaks Silence After Woman Files Lawsuit Claiming She’s Miley Cyrus’ Mother

If you’re thinking that the Cyrus family drama couldn’t get any more complicated than a highly publicized divorce between Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus (and Firerose – and a rumored family feud), the universe said, “Hold my wrecking ball.” Miley Cyrus should be on cloud nine right now. She’s fresh off a massive year career-wise, and she just got engaged to musician Maxx Morando. But because nothing in Hollywood can ever just be simple and happy, a truly bizarre and astounding lawsuit attempted to crash the party.

What in the World is Going On?

A 45-year-old woman named Jayme Lee came out of the woodwork, claiming to be the pop star’s real biological mother, alleging a secret history that sounds less like a legal filing and more like a rejected telenovela script. Huh.

We’ll dive into the weird and wacky details of this chaotic saga and how Billy Ray Cyrus shut it down. Also, we’ll look at why dragging Taylor Swift into this mess was a bridge too far.

The Bizarre Claims Targeting Miley Cyrus

If you’re going to file a lawsuit against one of the most famous families in music history, you usually need paperwork backup and receipts. Lots of them. Jayme Lee, however, came with a story so wild it’s hard to know where to start.

Lee, an Arizona resident, filed a complaint claiming she gave birth to Miley Cyrus in 1992 (this is when Lee would have been roughly 12 or 13 years old) and entered into a “private adoption agreement” with Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus-Purcell. Now, secret adoptions are a staple of daytime soap operas, but Lee’s allegations got specific in the weirdest ways. She claimed this secret contract guaranteed her the right to name the child, plus – and this is the kicker – a job as the child’s nanny and piano teacher. Right.

Because that’s how adoptions usually work, yeah? You give up the baby but secure a contractual obligation to teach them “Chopsticks” five years later? We’re scratchin’ our heads here.

Lee claimed that Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus-Purcell cut off contact and threatened her, causing her “severe emotional distress.” She wanted the court to order DNA testing for everyone involved and revisit the legality of this supposed 90s adoption. That would’ve been interesting.

Dragging Hollywood Royalty Into the Mix

Soon, the legal filing went from “sad and confusing” to “absolutely unhinged.” It wasn’t enough to just sue Billy Ray Cyrus and his then-wife. Lee decided the witness list needed to look like the seating chart at the Oscars. Or Grammys.

In her filing, Lee attempted to rope in Dolly Parton, claiming Miley Cyrus’s Godmother knew the “truth” about the concealment. But she didn’t stop at country legends. The lawsuit listed Julia Roberts, the Osbournes (including the late great Ozzy), Neil Patrick Harris, aaaand… Hillary Clinton as “eyewitnesses.” Yep.

The cherry on top of this legal sundae? Lee issued a subpoena to Taylor Swift. Yes, that Taylor Swift. Hmm. Apparently, Lee believed Swift was in possession of a specific scrapbook that was relevant to the case. Why the biggest pop star on the planet would be holding onto a random scrapbook for a woman from Arizona remains one of the great mysteries of this case. It’s the kind of detail that screams “internet conspiracy theory” rather than “federal court case.” Just yikes.

Billy Ray Cyrus Claps Back at “Absurd” Lawsuit

Billy Ray Cyrus wasn’t having any of it. While he has been busy dealing with his own actual family dynamics and congratulating Miley Cyrus on her engagement, his legal team had to waste time swatting this annoyance away.

Billy Ray Cyrus filed a motion to dismiss, calling the allegations “false and absurd.” His team pointed out the obvious: you can’t just privately adopt a kid in Tennessee with a handshake deal, and even if you could, the statute of limitations on these claims ran out decades ago. He argued the ridiculous lawsuit was purely designed to harass his family and waste the court’s time.

The legal system agreed. The lawsuit wasn’t just tossed out; it was dismissed “with prejudice.” In legal speak, that’s the court’s way of saying, “This is done, and don’t you dare bring this up again.” Billy Ray Cyrus was granted compensation for his legal fees, which feels like a small victory.

Why This Drama is Different for the Cyrus Family

It’s easy to laugh at the “Taylor Swift has my scrapbook” element, but there’s a sadder human element here. Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus haven’t exactly had the smoothest father-daughter relationship lately. Following the divorce of Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus-Purcell, the family seemed to fracture, with siblings picking sides and public appearances dwindling have been dwindling

Recently, however, there were signs of a thaw. Billy Ray Cyrus took to X (formerly Twitter) to happily congratulate Miley Cyrus on her engagement to Maxx Morando, signaling a desire to bridge the gap. For a random stranger to insert themselves into this fragile family dynamic with beyond outrageous claims of abuse and secret parentage is incredibly invasive.

Fame attracts all kinds of energy, and unfortunately for Miley Cyrus, not all of it is positive. Thankfully, this specific chapter is closed. The judge has banged the gavel, the “biological mother” claims are legally dead, and hopefully, Cyrus can go back to planning her wedding without worrying about any subpoenas being sent to her peers.
