The RuneScape animated series is officially in development. Jagex confirmed on Saturday that it is teaming with Lyrical Animation and YouTube star Charlie White, known online as MoistCr1TiKaL, to bring the world of Gielinor to the screen, according to Variety.
The reveal came at RuneFest 2026 in Birmingham, England, where Jagex also showed an early look at a fourth mainline RuneScape MMO.
RuneScape animated series: who is making it
Lyrical Animation, a division of Los Angeles company Lyrical Media, will produce the series with White’s Meatier Productions, Variety reported. Jagex described the project in its official announcement as a way to take the franchise’s characters and stories beyond games.
White has more than 25 million followers across his channels and is a longtime RuneScape player, according to Jagex. Lyrical Animation creative director Daniel Dominguez said that “RuneScape has such a unique storytelling voice, at once laugh-out-loud funny and effortlessly insightful.”
What else Jagex showed at RuneFest
RuneFest drew more than 6,000 fans to Birmingham’s NEC, Wccftech reported. Jagex used the stage to reveal early work on a new RuneScape MMO built in Unreal Engine. The company says the game is aimed at a new generation of players, and it has no title or release window yet.
Jagex says the fourth RuneScape MMO will be set in Gielinor and aims to blend the depth, freedom and community spirit that have defined the franchise for 25 years with modern design and technology. The studio is also managing expectations: fans should not expect a release window soon, because the project is still in early development.
That timeline matters for the RuneScape animated series too. Both projects are at an early stage, and Jagex says it will share more details in 2027.
Why it matters for RuneScape fans
Jagex launched RuneScape in 2001, and the franchise has passed 300 million accounts created, according to the company. The series would give fans a new way to see Gielinor beyond the games. What Jagex and White said about the RuneScape animated series
Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy said the company sees potential well beyond games. “When we talk about the future of RuneScape, we don’t just mean games,” he said in the announcement, adding that Jagex wants to bring Gielinor to life for existing fans and a whole new audience.
Bellamy revealed the project on the RuneFest stage after the Old School RuneScape keynote, according to Jagex. The company runs two versions of the game, RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, and says the pair have earned more than $3 billion in lifetime revenue.
For long-running players, the news signals that Jagex wants Gielinor to grow beyond its servers. Dominguez called the setting “laugh-out-loud funny,” which hints at the tone Lyrical Animation is aiming for.
White built his following on YouTube and livestreams. Jagex says his channels draw about 145 million views a month and that his YouTube videos average 1.8 million views. He has also worked with Lyrical Media before.
Lyrical Animation is not new to game adaptations. Alongside the RuneScape animated series, its slate includes a feature film adapted from White’s comic Godslap, a Death Stranding anime and a Bloodborne feature adaptation, according to Jagex.
