Rolling Stones frontman, Mick Jagger, has made headlines yet again. This time? The rockstar is engaged to his long-time partner, Melanie Hamrick. The couple has been together for over ten years, and together they have one child. It only makes sense that the next step for the two of them is marriage. As for the couple, that might not be in the cards just yet. Melanie, who is 44 years Mick’s junior, might not ever be ready for marriage.
Mick Jagger’s New Fiancée
Mick Jagger and his fiancée Melanie Hamrick have been together for over ten years now. According to Today, the two first met in February 2014 at a Rolling Stones concert in Tokyo. At the time, Melanie was only 26 years old and she was on tour with the American Ballet Theater in New York City. She and the other dancers were gifted tickets to the Rolling Stones concert while they were also in Japan performing. The two met backstage.
Just a few months later, he was officially in a relationship with Melanie, and they’ve been together ever since. Prior to the two of them getting engaged, the 81-year-old rockstar had only been married once — to actress Bianca Jagger from 1971 to 1978.
According to an interview Melanie did with French publication Paris Match, she and Mick Jagger have been secretly engaged for a while now. She said, “We’ve been engaged two or three years.” It seems like they’re really not in a rush.
The couple also has a son together. In 2016, Melanie gave birth to their son Deveraux. While he is her first child, he’s the eighth child for Mick Jagger.
That Age Gap
When it comes to the couple, there’s quite the elephant in the room — their 44-year age gap. Mick is 81 years old, while Melanie is 37. While it’s a big topic of discussion for the public, Melanie and Mick don’t think much of it.
According to The Times, she said, “I don’t think about it. Everyone’s going to have their opinion. If you think about others’ opinions, no matter where you are in life, you’re going to have a problem and you’re going to analyze it.”
She continued, “I put the blinders on. Am I happy? Yes. Are the people in my life happy? Yes. Am I hurting anyone? No. Okay, they can mind their own business.”
What’s Next For The Couple?
According to Yahoo Entertainment, Melanie revealed that despite being engaged to Mick Jagger, a wedding might not be in the cards for them. She said, “Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.”
Whether or not they’ll actually get married, they seem to be happy with the life that they have together — engaged, in love, with their adorable son.
