Robert Downey Jr. officially passes the Iron Man legacy to Dominique Thorne, who takes on the mantle as Ironheart in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series, marking a new era for Marvel Phase 5. Throne has already made her debut in the MCU as Riri Williams in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, becoming one of the best parts of the film. She, along with Anthony Ramos, will star in the upcoming ‘Ironheart’ TV series.
Good Morning, Ironheart
Throne and Ramos were on Good Morning America to promote the upcoming show, when one of the hosts, Robin Roberts (GMA), asked, “Do you mind if we interrupt the interview for just a moment, because I think we have a very special message. I think you’re going to recognize who this is.” This is followed by a message from Iron Man himself, RDJ, saying, “Ms. Thorne, I couldn’t be happier to be seeing you bring Riri Williams to life. But the Hood has me nervous.
Is the hood green? Please tell me Mr. Ramos is not replacing me as Dr. Doom via Parker Robbins. Is there something they’re not telling me?” The former Iron Man finishes with “Long story short; Iron Man loves Ironheart.”, bringing a smile to both actors’ faces.
Throne’s MCU Family Relationship
Throne continued the interview, mentioning that Downey Jr. had been very supportive through the making of the Ironheart series, which will continue the adventures of Riri Williams, who ends up crossing paths with Romos’ “The Hood” character, after being kicked out of MIT. This series will put Williams through the test as she navigates life between technology and magic. Throne mentioned on the morning show that she and her brother would dress up as Iron Man and Iron Girl. She makes mention of how, since her brother was born the same year Iron Man came out, her family has been in love with the MCU.
Passing the Arc Reactor
With Downey Jr. giving his approval in a way, it’s like her passing the Iron Man heart to Throne. If anything, this shows that there will always be an armor suit around the MCU. My hope is that they start using her character more often, since the last time we saw Throne play Williams was back in 2022. I also expected that with the mixture of technology and magic to be introduced, this would open doors for more of the dark side of the MCU’s magical world.
