The world has lost another rock legend this week, Dash Crofts. Crofts was a singer and guitarist from the soft rock 70’s duo Seals and Crofts. If you are unfamiliar with the rock legend, the super-duo’s hit songs include the overly sampled “Summer Breeze,” “Diamond Girl,” and “First Love”. Croft’s family and friends confirmed his passing at 85 years old on social media.

Farewell to the Talented Dash Crofts

According to TMZ, the news outlet received confirmation from Crofts’ family that he died from “complications of a heart surgery. No plans for a memorial have been set at this time.”

Seals and Crofts’ longtime producer and friend, Louie Shelton, confirmed the news first on his Facebook account. Shelton shared alongside a black and white picture of Crofts and the caption, “Sad to hear our dear brother and partner in music has passed away today. Sending love and prayers to all his family and many fans. R.I.P. my brother…..Dash Crofts.”

Another heartfelt tribute came from the “I’ll Play for You” singer’s daughter, Lua Crofts Faragher. Faragher wrote on Facebook.

“We are heartbroken to share the passing of our beloved father and husband Darrell “Dash” George Crofts, who passed away March 25, 2026 at the age of 87 surrounded by the love and prayers of his devoted wife and children. With sorrow and gratitude we mourn a man whose loving-kindness, remarkable compassion, beautiful and tender voice has uplifted hearts across the globe. We extend our gratitude and appreciation for the outpouring of love and support that we have received from around the world and we celebrate and honor his legacy of service to mankind.”

Dash Crofts From Texas to Top Charts

The Texas native was born August 14, 1940, in Cisco, Texas, as Darrell George Crofts. Growing up in Texas, he met the other half of the rock duo, Jim Seals, as a teenager. Crofts and Seals hit the road to California and joined the rock and roll band The Champs.

In 1969, the pair struck gold when they became a duo, forming Seals and Crofts. In 1972, with the album and song of the same title, “Summer Breeze,” the song reached Billboard’s top 10 on the Hot 100 chart.

Seals and Crofts’ 70s Hitmaker Legacy Lives

Dash Crofts’ musical partner, Seals, died in 2022, and the song “Summer Breeze” returned to the Billboard chart. Let’s do it again, to celebrate the legacy of Crofts Stream, Seals and Crofts’ discography on Spotify.
