Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings” that follows familiar and new characters as they “confront the long-feared re-emergency of evil to Middle-Earth.” This description initially excited viewers, and the buzz for the show’s premiere was massive.
Though the TV series managed to accrue over 25 million views in just one day, the show started to lose steam as the season progressed, and viewership for new episodes dropped drastically. Sadly, the second season’s viewership continued this trend, making audiences wonder if a third season will even happen.
According to Amazon, Season 2 only reached 40 million viewers in 11 days; however, the studio doesn’t define what they consider a viewer to be, making this stat hard to decipher when interpreting the viewership trends.
