Rings of Power Season 2 has Bigger Battle Teased

SDCC Rings of Power trailer

The Rings of Power season two is set to debut later this month on August 29th, and Amazon looks to be upping the ante with an even larger battle than was in the first season. In the first season of The Rings of Power, viewers were introduced to the major players of the Second Age and beyond, including Galadriel, Tar-Mirel, Gil-Galad, Elrond, Durin the Fourth, the Stranger, which is more than likely Gandalf, and late debut by Sauron.

We also saw a large battle take place between Adar’s orcs and a Numenorean force led by Queen-Regent Tar-Miriel, with season one ultimately ending with the creation of Mordor. A recent trailer for Amazon’s The Rings of Power looks to up the ante with Sauron enacting his plan to have the Rings of Power themselves created this season. What does the second season of The Rings of Power have in store?

Rings of Power And The First Age Of Middle-Earth

While The Rings of Power touched on the events of the First Age, it only really showed a small fraction of what actually happened. While Sauron is the big bad of the Second and Third Ages, Sauron’s boss, Melkor, is the big bad of the First Age and, ultimately, the big bad in Tolkien’s legendarium. Before Melkor, Sauron, or even Gandalf, there was Eru Illuvitar, who Tolkien, being Catholic, created as the one true God of his legendarium. Eru Illuvitar, in turn, created what were essentially angels, with the Valar, like Melkor, being higher angels and the Maiar, like Gandalf and Sauron, being lower angels.

Melkor, being the Satan-figure, rebelled against Illuvitar because he wanted to create a life of his own and eventually ventured to Middle-Earth and began corrupting it. Sauron and other Maiar allied with Melkor with some of the other Maiar becoming balrogs, which is the creature Gandalf faces in Fellowship of the Ring. Eventually, Melkor would lose and be thrown into the void which left Sauron to do what he liked. All of this can be found by reading The Silmarillion, which acts as a bible of sorts for Tolkien’s Middle-Earth.

Rings of Power Cast Talks About Season Two

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly at Comic-Con, the cast of Amazon’s fantasy Epic The Rings of Power spoke about what to expect for season two. Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who plays Queen Tar-Miriel in RoP, said, “If you’re going to do a second season of something, you’ve got to go even bigger, even grander.” Ismael Cruz Cordoba, who plays the elf Arondir, said, “There is a battle, and it’s on a different level,” Cordoba continues, “and visually, it’s going to be just a feast.”

Season two of The Rings of Power sounds like it’s going to be even more visually impressive than season one was. No doubt the stakes are also going to be raised for the humans, elves, dwarves, and even hobbits of Middle-Earth as well. Tom Bombadil, who is a fan-favourite character that was omitted from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy, will also be in season two, and he seems to be advising the Stranger who the two Harfoot girls are traveling with. Overall, the second season of The Rings of Power looks to have some exciting things in store.
