Rick and Morty 8×05 Presents Interesting Space Adventure

Rick and Morty Season 8 Episode 5

Every Rick and Morty Season 8 episode has been an action-packed wild ride. Or they’ve provoked viewers into thinking about the show’s characters and future. This week’s installment is a little of both, with the titular pair returning to space. They encounter a civilization where its people live separated by wealth and class. Of course, the story tackles the issues of social inequality and the toxicity of greed. But would you believe it also grants us some possible insight into Rick’s past?

Rick and Morty’s Newest Space Story

The brand-new episode opens with the duo locating a spaceship carrying sleeping passengers. Rick tries to loot its vault, but Morty’s moral-driven interference triggers an emergency wake-up. To hide, they take the places of two deceased individuals from different social classes. Eventually, Rick and Morty open the vault only to discover it is void of valuables. They and the passengers learn that the people the titular duo replaced did it. This revelation prompts everyone into a wacky yet life-threatening space race for the stolen wealth.

Rick Gets New Parents

In this Rick and Morty episode, Rick unexpectedly bonds with a wealthy yet loving couple. They believe he’s their son because he emerged from their child’s cryo-sleep pod. Rick genuinely returns their affection, which is quite a change given his usual demeanor. And the exact reason behind his altered behavior remains a mystery.

It’s probable that Rick’s actual parents weren’t attentive or affectionate to him during his early years. The wealthy couple probably gave him something he never had growing up. In turn, he gave them the son he believed they deserved. He was also willing to protect them and berate anyone who mistreated them. This theory holds the most merit because Rick somewhat confirms it throughout the episode.

Final Verdict and Thoughts

I give this newest Rick and Morty episode a 9 out of 10. It’s your typical story about how money corrupts people and creates social segregation. But it still possesses plenty of the show’s traditional action and dark humor. We also received potential and subtle speculation about Rick’s past and witnessed him being kind. The latter could signal his gradual transformation into a better person this season. I guess we’ll find out, maybe, either next week or in a future episode.
