The popular fantasy manhwa on Webtoon comics “Remarried Empress” premiered in 2018 based on a web novel of the same name, written by Alphatart and illustrated by Chireon. The manhwa received a lot of appreciation and popularity in no time because of its unpredictable and interesting storyline, unlike most romance stories.

In Remarried Empress, the author tried to highlight the strong trope named Navier Ellie Trovi where she doesn’t act naive and stays strong to her words. There is no denying that the manhwa has a controversial side where some people fell in love with the series whereas some found it a little boring and dropped the manhwa after reading a few chapters.

From the beginning of the manhwa “Remarried Empress,” Navier is presented as a perfect and strong empress who trained herself all her life for the title. The subjects of her territory admire her for her wise and compassionate attitude. By presenting the female lead this way, the author beautifully played with the women’s psychology and appealed to the women audience.

Although the author tried her best to idolize Navier’s personality as a perfect human being and an empress, some things need to be considered before calling her a perfect empress. Many readers found Navier’s personality to be too serious and boring as a female lead. But she never did anything that proved her image of being a perfect empress. The readers didn’t get to see the side of Navier being a great leader and do things which deserves appreciation. The leadership quality was missing in her personality which made the readers a but disappointed.

Besides, the whole series was around Navier; to prove she is the right one in every situation. But there were times were she didn’t initiate any steps where it was needed. For example, she allowed her husband’s mistress, Trashta, to walk all over her. She didn’t even have a brief talk with her husband about the circumstances before deciding to divorce him; even though his character is garbage, couples need to at least confront for once before getting apart.

What Is “Remarried Empress” About?

The story of Remarried Empress revolves around Navier, who dedicated her life to prepare herself as a perfect fit to rule the nation. To implement that, she married the emperor of the Eastern empire Sovieshu, who is also her childhood friend. Everything is going according to a certain process when one day Navier’s world collapses because Sovieshu brings a mistress home out of nowhere and asks for a divorce.

Navier chooses what will be beneficial for herself and marries the prince of Western Kingdom. In time, everything goes according to her plan and she gets to taste the real happiness of having a life partner instead of just having a mere relationship to show her society. We get to see Sovieshu regret his deeds and miss Navier as she was playing her role as his wife and the empress perfectly.

In the whole manhwa, Trashta plays the negative role where she manipulates Sovieshu in various ways because she fears losing him to Navier. As the emperor wasn’t supposed to have a mistress as his empress, Trashta gets herself pregnant with Sovieshu’s child just to make sure he doesn’t leave her. Every character has a back story, which adds more depth to the whole plot. Some readers might find this manhwa slow and boring, but it has a logical and strong storyline.
