Daily Devotion: Feel Good Friday Thoughts | January 9, 2026

Happy Friday! Itโ€™s time for your daily devotion. Solomon has discussed the heart, and now he moves to the mouth. In Proverbs 4:24, he says, โ€œPut away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.โ€ In your daily devotion, know that God has a way thatโ€™s best for you, and it involves right speech.

Put It Away From You

Certain things arenโ€™t acceptable in your speech when you walk with God. Matthew 12:37 says, โ€œFor by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Your words determine how you receive the promises of God. If you speak faith-filled words, you receive by faith.

But if you speak words that are opposite to God’s word, it’s called frowardness. Solomon talked about guarding your heart, and you should also guard your speech. In todayโ€™s daily devotion, agree to put away words that donโ€™t line up with the word of God, and use your mouth to speak those things that agree with His word.

As a believer, you shouldnโ€™t have a false or deceitful tongue. Your speech shouldnโ€™t be misleading or dishonest. According to Ephesians 4:29, youโ€™re to let no corrupt communication come from your mouth. Your words determine the trajectory of your faith walk. Faith pleases God, and He desires to hear faith-filled words when you speak.ย

In Acts 5, Ananias and Sapphira are believers in the early church. Everyoneโ€™s selling their possessions and bringing the money to the apostles so that they can distribute it among those in need. However, Ananais and Sapphira decide to keep part of their money and present a false report to the apostles.

They show up separately to deceive and then die instantaneously, after claiming to have made a full monetary contribution. The church was operating in a spirit of unity that they defied. Say this out loud in your daily devotion: โ€œI will not speak dishonest words, but I will speak truth that honors God.ย ย

Perverse Lips

Perverse lips are willfully contrary and devious. Ananias and Sapphiraโ€™s words were intentionally conflicting, contradictory, and untrue. When everyone was motivated by a spirit of giving, and there was faith and agreement, the enemy tempted them to lie. They decided not to provide the full amount, like everyone else.

In Acts 5:4, Peter tells Ananias, โ€œWhiles it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.โ€ Ananias couldโ€™ve just told the truth, and it would have been accepted, but he chose to speak falsely. In this daily devotion, acknowledge that perverse words are wrong, and you will not partake of them.

Put Far From Thee

Don’t just lay falsehood down. Put it far from you. Lying is the trademark of the enemy, the father of lies. He inspired Ananias to lie: โ€œBut Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?โ€ Instead of putting deception far away from him, Ananias chose to listen to Satan and lie. In your daily devotion, determine that you will not let Satan influence you to speak lies.ย

Truth Gives Freedom

In todayโ€™s daily devotion, realize thereโ€™s freedom in telling the truth. You donโ€™t have to make up false narratives and try to deceive others into believing them. And you won’t need a partner in crime. When you put false lips away from you, youโ€™re able to walk in honesty and truth.
