Happy Monday! It’s time for your daily devotion. It’s good to know that when God is with you, it doesn’t matter what’s happening around you. When Babylon invaded Jerusalem, the people went into captivity. But Daniel and his companions were handpicked for the king’s court. In today’s daily devotion, observe how integrity brings advancement.
After Jerusalem’s invasion, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were led to Babylon. It was a time of uncertainty, but God had plans for them. In your daily devotion, note that God’s favor works in foreign places.
The Best of the Best
The king instructed his chief officer to look for “children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science.” This description fits Daniel and his companions perfectly. Being from the royal line, they knew how to operate in the king’s court. In today’s daily devotion, know that God will prepare you for what lies ahead.
They were given a diet to ensure they are healthy and strong. However, Daniel asked that for ten days, they be given only vegetables, in keeping with their strict Jewish diet. He assured the chief officer that he and his friends would look healthy and fit at the end of that time. He agreed reluctantly, but to his amazement, Daniel was right.
Daniel 1:15 says, “And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.” In this daily devotion, declare that as Daniel trusted the Lord for his health and well-being, so must you.
Don’t Compromise Your Integrity
God gave Daniel favor with the chief officer, who defied the king’s orders to honor his request. Proverbs 23:1 says to consider what’s before you when eating from a ruler’s table. Verse 3 says, “Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.” In other words, there may be questionable motives behind it.
They wanted to indoctrinate Daviel and his companions into the Chaldean lifestyle. They changed their names and desired to change their language, education, worship, and diet. But Daniel’s integrity never wavers; he continues to trust in God. The world will try to change you into what it pleases. But stay true to God’s word. In today’s daily devotion, be careful of things that have strings attached.
God’s Blessings Aren’t Dependent on Men
God can bless you without the help of rulers or “powerful people.” James 1:5 declares that wisdom comes from the Lord. Daniel 1:17 says, “As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”
The king’s three-year training period ended, and the king found that Daniel and his companions were “ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.” They were the most intelligent men in the king’s court. However, it wasn’t the Babylonians’ rigorous educational system that made them wise. In this daily devotion, say out loud that it was God’s hand upon them, and nothing else.
God’s Unseen Hand
In Monday’s daily devotion, decide that if Daniel kept his integrity in Babylon, you can keep yours wherever you go as well. Proverbs 21:1 declares, The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord.” God is the unseen hand guiding your life, that the purposes He has ordained come to pass. He can turn the hearts of rulers, kings, or worldly authority; God uses them all in His overall plan.
