Daily Devotion: Feel Good Friday Thoughts | January 16, 2026
Happy Friday! Itโs time for your daily devotion. Abraham and Sarah received their promised son after many years of waiting. But in the wait, Scripture records some clues that God was preserving them both. In todayโs daily devotion, declare that God can keep you โ spirit, soul, and body.ย
God Preserves His People
When God appeared to Abraham at eighty-five, He told him, โAnd I will make thee exceeding fruitful.โ Thatโs not the message youโd expect to hear for a ninety-year-old. Yet Abraham became like a fruitful vine, whose descendants would one day fill the earth. In this daily devotion, know that God wants to bring fruitfulness to all areas of your life.
She’s My Sister
In Genesis 17, God speaks to Abraham when he’s ninety-nine, promising to multiply his seed.ย In chapter 20, Abraham journeys throughout Canaan, the land God promised to give to his descendants. Along with his wife and household, he enters Gerar. Genesis 20:2 states, โAnd Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.โย
Abraham doesn’t tell the king that Sarah is his wife. Why? At ninety years old, Sarah is so beautiful that Abraham feels the king would kill him to have her. So Abraham decides that to stay alive, he mustnโt tell the truth. Abraham and Sarah actually share the same father, but sheโs more than a sister to him. Abimelech takes Sarah and puts her in his harem. In your daily devotion, declare that you don’t have to help God preserve you. He’s got you.
Abraham Explains His Deception

God deals with the king of Gerar in a dream, warning him not to touch Sarah. The king then sends for Abraham to take his wife, while claiming his integrity in the matter. He asks Abraham for an explanation for his deception, and Abraham responds in verse 11: โBecause I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.โ
Abimelech is a heathen king who desires women for their outer beauty and their visibly appealing attributes. He’s not trying to make a spiritual connection, but a physical one. His eyes guide him in Sarahโs selection. In todayโs daily devotion, say out loud that God uses a king to be an eyewitness to His divine preservation.
A Household is Restored
In verse 14, Abimelech accepts Abrahamโs explanation: โAnd Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.โ He then gives Abraham a thousand pieces of silver to clear himself on Sarah’s behalf.
In verse 17, Abraham prays: โAbraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.โ God had made all of Abimelechโs household barren because of Sarah. In your daily devotion, note that God can deliver a message in many forms.
A Promise is Fulfilled
In Genesis 21:1, Abraham and Sarah leave Gerar, and their promise is fulfilled: โAnd the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.โ Sarah becomes pregnant and gives birth to Isaac. Verse 5 says, โAnd Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.โ
The Impossible is Possible
In Friday’s daily devotion, Abraham’s preservation is evident. He didn’t have to run to the corner drugstore and buy any supplements to support his productivity. And Sarahโs beauty wasn’t a result of Botox, creams, or beauty rituals. In this daily devotion, know that God is a Preservation Specialist who makes the impossible possible. Believe Him for the impossible today.
