What is Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots? Stylized often as Love Death + Robots, it is an adult animated series created by Tim Miller and produced by Blur Studio, one of the leading CGI studios. The concept was inspired by the movie Heavy Metal, and the streaming series had quite a long production history. Along with Miller, Josh Domen and famed director David Fincher direct. Fincher is best known for his psychological thrillers.
Ranking Every Love Death Robots Season From Best To Worst

The series is best described as a comedy, fantasy, sci-fi, and a lot of the horror genre. Regarding the seasons, each could be a stand-alone series, but the third season has an episode that roughly follows the first. Here we ranked Love Death & Robots from the best to worst season, based on creativity, original story, and viewership.
1 – Season One
Love Death & Robots premiered in 2019. The animated series proved to be attention-grabbing and had its share of voice talent. With big names like Gary Cole, Nolan North, and Brian Bloom, the season was solid. Legendary animator Gabriele Pennacchioli served as the director for most of these episodes.
Besides creativity, what made the season so good was that the stories dealt with a variety of topics like murder, surrealism, post-apocalyptic worlds, and war. Nothing had been done like this before, and while some of the episodes were kind of gory, the series was well-received.
2 – Season Three
The next season we chose was the third one. Love Death & Robots had a shorter season for the third one, but many of the episodes had much of the same impact as season one. The season started off with a continuation of Three Robots from the first. Jerome Denjean served as the director for many of the episodes.
Themes dealt with once again were body horror, war, AI, super grizzlies, and a deaf knight and a siren. We also saw voice talent from the likes of Rosario Dawson, Joe McHale, and Seth Green of The Family Guy, among many others.
3 – Season Two
Coming in third place here is season two. It was shorter than the first season, with only eight episodes. Recurring themes in the majority of the episodes were futuristic worlds, a controlled population, and there were several episodes regarding the holidays, and a beached giant.
Artist and animator Jennifer Yuh Nelson (of Kung Fu Panda fame) was the director for the majority of these episodes. Michael B. Jordan lent his voice talents to episode seven, entitled Life Hutch.
4 – Season Four
Unfortunately, the long-awaited season four, which premiered in May 2025, has not had the best reviews. A few more episodes did not necessarily mean better quality. Subjects dealt with were alien invasions, scheming house cats, and uh, the Red Hot Chili Peppers (in episode 10, Can’t Stop).
The season had the vocal talent of John Boyega, Niecy Nash, Janet Leeves, Jim Broadbent, and Kevin Hart. There were a couple of episodes that stuck out for both humor and creativity. They were: Smart Appliances, Stupid Owners, and Close Encounters of the Mini Kind.
To Sum Up
Creativity abounds in these animated shorts from Love Death & Robots. Some of the best instances of this particular series are when genres are mixed up. Whether it is AI blended with aliens, or murder combined with satirical humor, that’s what drew viewers in. If the series comes back for a fifth season, hopefully, it can consistently tackle interesting subject matter, yet keep it fun and accessible.
