Graceful Pokemon Actress Rachael Lillis Has Passed At Age 46

Rachael Lillis, a talented voice actor best known for her roles in Pokémon, has sadly passed away at age 46. Lillis voiced many characters in various Pokémon media but was most known for her roles and Misty and Jessie. Her co-star, the voice of Ash Ketchum, Veronica Taylor announced on X that Lillis had unfortunately lost her battle with breast cancer.

Racheal Lillis’ Pokemon Legacy

Racheal Lillis lent her voice to the Pokémon series from 1997 to 2015. She was highly known for her voice for Misty, Jessie, Jigglypuff, and other smaller background characters in Pokémon. She appeared in 423 episodes since the original series. Rachel Lillis also voiced in various Pokémon movies from Pokémon: The First Movie up to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time & Darkness. Her last episode to voice as Jessie was the first episode Pokémon X And Y, the 18th season of the show.

Other Works

Rachael Lillis has also lent her voice to many other notable and iconic roles. She voiced Faragonda in 74 episodes of Winx Club, was Ryoko in the popular anime Your Lie in April, and had a recurring role in Sonic X, and many more. All of these shows are embedded in the minds and hearts of many, filled with childhood nostalgia. Lillis also voiced in many video games, not just Smash Bros as was mentioned before. She’s worked on various Pokémon games and LEGO games as well.

Lillis passed on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 after a battle with breast cancer. She had received a breast cancer diagnosis in May of this year. Lillis’ friend and co-star, Veronica Taylor, made a statement Monday, August 12th, that broke the news of her death. She posted a screenshot of a written statement on her personal X account.

Taylor wrote, “It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Rachael Lillis on Saturday evening, 10 August, 2024. Rachael was an extraordinary talent, a bright light that shone through her voice whether speaking or singing. She will be forever remembered for the many animated roles she played, and her iconic performances as Pokémon’s Misty and Jessie being the most beloved.”

Taylor continued, “Rachael was so thankful for all of the generous love and support that was given to her as she battled with cancer. It truly made a positive difference. Her family also wishes to thank you as they take this time to grieve privately. A memorial is being planned for a future date.”

She captioned the post, “We all know Rachael Lillis from the many wonderful roles she played. She filled our Saturday mornings, before and after school hours with her beautiful voice, her terrific comic timing, and her remarkable acting skills. #RachaelLillis.”

Many fans have taken to social media to mourn and grieve the woman who gave a voice to their favorite characters. Her co-star, Veronica Taylor (Ash Ketchum) also continues to post in remembrance of Rachael Lillis.

She said in one post “I was lucky enough to know Rachael as a friend. She had unlimited kindness and compassion, even until the very end. She had a great sense of humor, was wonderful to be with, incredibly intelligent, and had such a memory. She worked hard and cared deeply.” and said in another, “I am not sure how this very dark void will be filled now that her light no longer shines in it. Like the shooting stars in the Perseids, Rachael was a magnificent wonder and truly special. She burned bright and vanished too soon. She will live on in our memories for eternity.”

Rachael Lillis was an incredible talent who contributed to the childhood joy of many, she is in the hearts and minds of her fans who loved her work. As are her family members and friends who survive her.

Lillis was also involved in many Pokémon shorts, mini-series, and music videos. She also voiced Jigglypuff and Goldeen in various Super Smash Bros games. She was a valuable and loved part of the Pokémon franchise, with many generations loving her characters and being taken by the way she voiced them.
