Maintaining a holiday fitness schedule can seem difficult. This can be an action-packed time of year. Adding quick workouts into your hectic days can help you keep your fitness routine going. These workouts can be short and structured. Tabata, for instance, is a framework for brief high-intensity interval (HIIT) exercise sets. Each Tabata series takes a mere four minutes. Busy days may have lulls in activity. These lulls can be opportunities for quick workouts such as Tabata exercise patterns. Working on fitness during the holidays does not have to be structured, though. When you can find the time, stretch, dance, or play active games. All of these activities can help you stay fit this season.

Finding Time for Holiday Fitness

During the frenetic holiday season, keep an eye out for small moments for exercise. Stretching, for instance, is an important component of any exercise routine. It is also a practice that is easy to engage in over the holidays. This essential aspect of fitness can be added to everyday life.

You can, for instance, stretch before bed. AvanceCare recommends: “End your day with 5–10 minutes of gentle stretching.” This stretching practice can be beneficial for muscle relaxation. It can also be a way to mentally de-stress after a long and active day. In general, any moments of stillness or downtime can be used for stretching. Stretching can also be combined with low-key activities such as watching television.

Also, holiday fitness activities do not have to be done solo. Include your family and/or friends in your fitness plans. One informal option for a quick workout is an improvised dance party at home. AvanceCare suggests: “Blast your favorite holiday tunes and get everyone grooving.” Another option for a casual fitness activity engaged in with others is playing Twister. Twister and other active games can offer quick workouts during a social holiday whirlwind.

A Few Structured Quick Workouts to Consider

Impromptu, informal exercise is great for a busy season. Quick workouts during the holidays can also feature a little more specificity. High-intensity interval (HIIT) workout structures feature short, intensive sets of exercises. Avec explains: “These routines involve short bursts of intense exercise followed by brief rest periods.”

A HITT exercise series does not need much of a daily time investment. A workout of twenty or thirty minutes can offer fitness benefits. Getting in a workout like this can boost your energy for everyday activities. For a customizable four-minute HIIT workout, try Tabata. Each Tabata workout consists of eight parts. Avec states each part has “20 seconds of… effort followed by 10 seconds of rest.”

You may have fitness goals concerning strength training. You can continue to work on these even when you are away on vacation. Quick workouts of strength training are possible even without access to equipment. Creating a set of bodyweight exercises can help build strength during holiday travel. No matter where you are, you can do these exercises. Lunges and push-ups are two possible exercises to include in your bodyweight training routines. Planks and squats are two other possibilities.

Fitness Priorities During the Holiday Season

You have a fitness routine you love. You also have holiday plans you are excited about. Perhaps you wonder if you can get exercise while traveling for the holidays. While you will likely have to adjust your routine, exercise can still happen. Quick workouts can help you continue to make fitness a priority. Balance holiday commitments with fitness goals by finding exercise opportunities. Stretch during momentary respites in your holiday commitments. Have a few exercises you enjoy that you can do anywhere. Involve your family and friends in active moments through dance parties and Twister games. As long as you are flexible, you can work productively toward holiday fitness.
