Queens of the Stone Age Delay Remaining 2024 Shows

On Friday, rock heavyweights Queens of the Stone Age (QOTSA) broke the regrettable news to fans that they must cancel or postpone the remainder of their scheduled 2024 shows and performances. The band stated on Facebook and Instagram that band frontman Josh Homme “has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care throughout the year.” This is the third cancellation announcement the band has made since Homme’s health came into question in early July. Rescheduled shows are expected to take place in 2025.

The First Announcement

Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme waves to fans during a show on the End is Nero Tour

On July 9, QOTSA announced the first series of canceled European shows on their social media pages, stating, “Queens are gutted; we aren’t able to play for you.” In the statement, fans learned Homme would travel back to the U.S. to undergo emergency surgery after he could no longer push through with the shows. At the time, it looked like QOTSA was optimistic that Homme would have a quick recovery, canceling just eight of the shows on the tour abroad.

New Update Issued

QOTSA took to their social media outlets once again on July 26, stating Homme was to continue with needed medical care and was to remain stateside under doctors’ orders. An additional seven shows were canceled in the announcement. The update included a special note from the Homme family and QOTSA, who thanked fans for the outpouring of well wishes and kind understanding as Homme continued with his medical battle.

The Final Cancelation

In the Friday announcement, Queens of the Stone Age said that although the cancellations and postponements were regrettable, Homme “has been given no choice but to prioritize his health.” He is expected to continue receiving essential medical care through the end of the year. QOTSA thanked fans for their continued support and hoped to see fans again onstage in 2025.

This cancellation seemed bittersweet, as tickets for the U.S. began approximately one month before the first announcement was made. QOTSA was set to appear in Boston, Massachusetts; Cincinnati, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; and Madison, Wisconsin, for headlining shows as well as a few festivals this fall.

The End is Nero

Seeing the news that Queens of the Stone Age had to cancel the upcoming U.S. shows is an unfortunate ending to The End is Nero Tour. After the June 2023 release of the band’s eighth studio album, In Times New Roman, the band hit the road in August for the first leg of their tour, aptly titled The End Is Nero Tour. Having seen shows from the first leg and the seventh leg, the shows from the final cancellation were high on the concert wishlist for the end of the year. Here’s to a successful recovery.
