Four years after leaving London and his royal life behind, Prince Harry renounced his British residency in a legal filing released on Wednesday. In the legal filing with the British government, he’s now listed as residing in the United States. The Duke of Sussex filed the notice, changing his personal details with Travalyst, his eco-tourism non-profit. It was one of his last legal links to the royal family.
The King Actually Evicted His Royal Son
U.K. News site The Mirror said the residency filing was backdated to June 29, 2023. That was the day the couple was evicted (yes, he was legally evicted) from their U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage, by King Charles III. A spokesperson for the couple said, “We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”
In January 2022, the Prince released a statement saying, “The U.K. will always be Prince Harry‘s home and a country he wants his wife and children to be safe in.”
Harry’s and Megan’s, the Dutchess of Sussex, relationship with the royal family has been strained for over two years. The couple left London for L.A. in 2020. The Prince and his family ‘quit’ the royals after security was taken away from his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Appeal for Security Denied by British Court
But on Wednesday the Prince’s appeal for security was denied after he lost a High Court challenge over a decision to change the level of his personal security when he visits the UK. British taxpayers would have had to cover that bill to ensure his security. Given Harry and his wife’s prominent world status, protecting their security is a serious concern. No expense is too much to safeguard anyone’s life, and this is especially true for this royal couple.
Frogmore Cottage was originally a home for castle staff. It was given to the couple as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth. Frogmore was remodeled, costing £3.5 million of public money. The Cottage, seen above, was a secure residence for the family because it sits within the security perimeter of Windsor Castle. One has to wonder how the royal couple genuinely feels about leaving a residence where such an investment in its security is present.
Harry & Meghan Producing a Netflix Show
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were in South Florida on Friday. Harry was part of an invitation-only charity polo match in Wellington, Florida (about 60 miles north of Miami). The couple is producing a new show about the game, scheduled to air on Netflix when they finish it. Fans and followers of the couple eagerly await this production.
The New York Times calls the 39-year-old Prince one of the highest-profile polo players in the world. Harry’s team won the match and was presented with a trophy by Meghan, who was showing off an off-white Heidi Merrick halter dress.
Megan made headlines this week after sending out ‘limited edition’ containers of her jam. These containers made their first appearance to the public when some of their friends posted them on Instagram.
